Job Title: Rigger

Job Summary: A rigger is responsible for the safe and effective rigging and lifting of heavy equipment and materials. This includes inspecting and maintaining rigging equipment, selecting appropriate rigging methods, and coordinating rigging activities to ensure the overall safety and efficiency of lifting operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Rigging Setup: Set up rigging equipment, such as slings, shackles, and cables, in preparation for lifting operations.

Equipment Inspection: Inspect rigging equipment for damage, wear, or defects and ensure compliance with safety standards. Perform regular maintenance and repair tasks as needed.

Load Calculation: Calculate the weight and center of gravity of loads to determine the appropriate rigging and lifting techniques.

Select Rigging Gear: Choose the right rigging gear, such as hooks, hoists, and cranes, based on load characteristics and safety requirements.

Safety Protocols: Follow established safety procedures and guidelines to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment during lifting operations.

Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with the team involved in lifting operations, including crane operators, signalpersons, and other workers.

Lift Planning: Assist in developing lift plans and risk assessments to determine the best approach for each specific task.

Signal Operation: Provide hand signals or use two-way radios to communicate with crane operators and guide load movements during lifts.

Documentation: Maintain records of rigging activities, inspections, and equipment usage as required by regulations and company policies.

Emergency Response: Be prepared to respond quickly and effectively in case of accidents or equipment failures during lifting operations.

Training: Stay current with industry regulations, best practices, and advancements in rigging technology. Provide training and guidance to less experienced riggers.

Teamwork: Collaborate closely with other construction or industrial professionals, including crane operators, supervisors, and safety personnel.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Relevant certifications in rigging and crane operation, such as NCCCO certification or similar.

Proficient knowledge of rigging techniques, equipment, and safety protocols.

Physical fitness and the ability to handle heavy equipment and materials.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Willingness to work in various weather conditions and at heights.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to rigging and lifting operations.

Work Environment: Riggers work in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, entertainment, and offshore drilling. They often work outdoors and may be exposed to adverse weather conditions. The job may require working at heights or in confined spaces.
