This position is located at Indiana Dunes National Park, and assigned to the Roads and Trails Maintenance Division. The work leader leads and direct the work of a crew consisting of 1 WG-06 Tractor Operator, 1 WG-07 Maintenance Worker, 2 WG-05 Maintenance Worker and 1-5 Seasonal Laborers and Maintenance Workers.

The crew is responsible for equipment and maintenance of roads, parking lots, trails, and ground/trail structure maintenance at Indiana Dune National Park. Performs carpentry repairs and construction of new and existing structures or items such as building storage shelves, dry wall, repair of roofs, doors, windows, stairs, and decks.Incumbent plans the daily work schedule for the crew based on instructions received from the Roads and Trails Supervisor and work along with the crew to help set the pace of work. The work leader demonstrates the proper work methods and control the flow of work accomplished; determines the equipment, tools, methods, and techniques best suited for the job; obtain and reviews the necessary plans and ensures any supplies needed to complete assignments are on hand. The leader checks work while in progress and when finished sees whether the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Ensure safe working conditions and good house keeping are executed. Operates a 60 to 85HP backhoe, frontend-loader, dozer, and farm tractor, dump truck with power takeoff and weighing up to 33,000 pounds, to load/move materials and maintain grounds, trails and roadways.
