Laboratory Technician

The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in leading and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the Client's Microbiology and Fermentation laboratories by performing general laboratory maintenance, cleaning, media preparation, supplies ordering, organization, and testing.

Responsibilities:

* Ensure smooth operation of laboratory. This includes maintaining equipment, performing calibrations, ordering and stocking laboratory supplies, media & supplies preparation, decontamination of waste and other routine lab operations
* Set up, operate, clean and maintain shake flasks, bench fermentation, and centrifugation equipment
* Carry out testing by utilizing established traditional and next-generation equipment, protocols, and methods.
* Work on multiple projects simultaneously, with the ability to balance priorities within a fast-paced environment. Perform other duties as assigned
* Complete all required documentation for full traceability. Keep an organized, up-to-date laboratory notebook and practice detailed documentation of work
* Contribute to and actively participate in safety/waste programs and steadfastly adhere to safety policies/standards as it relates to working with biologicals and chemicals
* Weekend work as required to maintain cultures and record data

Qualifications:

* High School Diploma 2-4+ years of experience or Bachelors of Science in Biology, Microbiology, or related field with 0-2+ years of experience.
* Good written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
* Strong initiative and attention to detail and ability to work with cross-functional teams
* Creative and curious individual with passion for technical learning and problem solving
* Action-oriented, organized and adept at balancing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Desired, but not essential:

* Chemistry knowledge (organic & physical)
* Strong aseptic laboratory, operational, and multichannel pipetting skills
* Familiarity with sterilizer handling and media preparation for aerobic/anaerobic bacteria, yeast, and mold species
* Practical hands-on experience with industrial fermentation of bacteria
