UH Lakewood Medical Center is located between Kansas City and Lee's Summit, Missouri, offering residents of Eastern Jackson County access to a modern community hospital with a continuum of outpatient services designed to meet the needs of families. UH Lakewood specializes in high-risk maternal and child care, and serves as one of the few Kansas City metro area institutions accredited by The Joint Commission in Orthopedics and Palliative Care. It also is home to a 188-bed, fully accredited long-term care center.

UH Behavioral Health is the KC metro area's largest, most comprehensive provider of mental health services. The Crossroads Building, located in Kansas City's vibrant Crossroads Arts District, is its epicenter, providing a broad list of outpatient services. We also offer psychiatric inpatient care, and we deliver therapeutic services through our community outreach clinics. Job Description

Performs grossing, embedding, staining, sectioning and cover slipping of histologic surgical specimens. Works closely with Anatomic Pathology Histology department, Anatomic Pathology leadership, Pathologists, and Dermatopathologist to provide quality slide results and patient care.

Minimum Requirements

* An associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either-
* 24 semester hours of medical laboratory courses, or


* 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses that include-
* Six semester hours of chemistry;


* Six semester hours of biology; and


* Twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination






* Histotechnician certification (HT or HTL), ASCP within one year of initial hire


* Excellent verbal and written communication skills


* Ability to stand for long periods of time


* Ability to work independently, prioritize and problem solve


* Excellent organizational skills


* Considerable ability to provide superior customer service skills


* Proficient in Microsoft applications and basic computer skills



Preferred Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in laboratory science


* Documented laboratory experience in grossing or histology preferred, but may consider on the job training
