Title: Response to Intervention (RTI) Specialist
The job of Response to Intervention (RTI) Specialist is done for the purpose/s of working in an instructional support capacity to provide professional learning, technical guidance and best practice resources and materials in the area of Response to Intervention (RTI) and NJ Tiered Systems of Support (NJTSS); Serves as the primary intervention specialist and school contact for RTI and SST, as well as functions as the school liaison between general education, psychological services and special education for compliance and due process issues related to students suspected of having impairments or disabilities.
Qualifications:
* New Jersey instructional certificate
* Proficiency at data gathering and analysis; project planning and evaluation; applying assessment instruments; preparing and maintaining accurate records; conducting meetings; physical restraint practices; computer and technology skills; excellent organizational and leadership skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to plan and facilitate meetings, and/or events; routinely gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.
* Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.
* Ability to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize job-related equipment.
* Independent problem-solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires an analysis based on organizational objectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant.
* Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship.
Reports to: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
Performance Responsibilities: (district-wide and not permanently assigned to any school)
* Assists teachers in preparing materials and strategies for each group to ensure the use of sound teaching practices consisting of evidence-based instructional practices that are implemented with fidelity.
* Assists with the monitoring of Reading and Math instruction to ensure the use of sound teaching practices consisting of evidence-based instructional practices that are implemented with fidelity.
* Engages the learning community for identifying and systematically addressing professional learning needs related to RTI and NJTSS.
* Engages and involves parents in the RTI process to ensure effective communication is provided at every tier.
* Ensures that teachers and teams adhere to legal requirements to protect the legal integrity of the system and students.
* Facilitates and supports teacher's use of classroom-based, developmentally appropriate interventions for individual children and groups of children to enhance their acquisition of social/emotional and cognitive skills.
* Maintains records to ensure compliance with federal, state and local guidelines and reporting requirements.
* Meets with teachers individually or in grade-level teams to help interpret data, determine intervention efficacy and plan next steps of support.
* Models and assists teachers in the use of data to place students in intervention groups and define focus of instruction for each group.
* Observes teachers instructing intervention groups for the purpose of providing feedback and coaching.
* Oversees school and classroom level data collection and progress monitoring at Tier II and Tier III to monitor, evaluate, and recommend interventions.
* Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars as assigned (e.g. representative for domain meetings; annual reviews; and IEP review meetings, etc.) to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions.
* Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
* Plans and delivers ongoing staff development for teachers and paraprofessionals to accomplish the goals of RTI.
* Plans, schedules, and leads RTI and Intervention Team meetings in coordination with the principal, support staff, parents, and instructional staff to facilitate Tier II and Tier III interventions.
* Provides training, technical assistance and support on the effective use of school-based intervention teams, including collaboration, communication, and cohesion across various team members (administrators, teachers, counselors, ISTs, school psychologists, etc.) to implement RtI and provide appropriate support to students.
* Provides technical guidance and support for teachers and RTI/NJTSS teams to ensure effective use of behavioral support models (PBSIS) and tools (functional behavior assessment, positive behavioral supports, and behavior intervention plans).
* Supports teachers to measure and document student progress.
* Supports and monitors the school's implementation of the Response to Intervention (RTI) model to increase student achievement.
* Utilizes understanding of how to select and analyze data related to individual students, groups of students and classrooms to positively impact achievement and behavior.
* Works collaboratively with NJTSS Data Teams to facilitate eligibility for special education when needed.
Term of employment: 10 months.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with board policies and procedures on the evaluation of professional staff.
