The Position

A 9.5% general salary increase will be applied effective July 2024.

An additional 8% general salary increase will be applied effective July 2025.

The Integrated Waste Collector performs skilled manual work in the loading and transportation of integrated waste material; and is primarily responsible for positioning collection bins for loading of integrated waste material into refuse collection trucks operated by the Senior Integrated Waste Collector (Driver).

The successful candidates will have the ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, often under adverse weather and traffic conditions; follow safety rules and regulations; read, write, understand, and follow oral and written instructions provided by the City or their supervisor; and to establish, foster, and maintain positive, harmonious working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public. Ideal candidates should have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a recommendation to obtain a CDL. Additionally, successful candidates will embody the values of the City's Approach to Public Service and demonstrate the qualities of a 5 Tool Player - Leader, Thinker, Operator, Communicator, and Public Servant.

Additionally, the following procedures will apply:

The Integrated Waste Department

The Integrated Waste Department, which is part of the City of Ontario's Public Works Agency, is committed to providing timely and efficient integrated waste and recycling collection services with an emphasis on good customer service, sustainability, and environmental stewardship. The Integrated Waste Department includes approximately 116 full time staff and offers a variety of services and programs related to refuse and recycling collection service to approximately 33,000 residential and 3,500 commercial customers. Among the services offered are weekly residential curbside recycling and green waste collection, and a full array of commercial and industrial integrated waste services designed to meet any business needs, including commercial food waste collection services, available six days a week, Monday through Saturday.

The Public Works Agency provides essential construction, integrated waste and recycling collection, fleet and facility maintenance and repair services to the citizens and businesses of Ontario through the Parks and Maintenance, Municipal Services, and Integrated Waste Departments. Examples of Essential Functions

The essential functions typically performed by the Integrated Waste Collector include the following:

* Moves full, front-end load commercial bins into position for loading by mechanical equipment on truck.
* Assists with the process ofmovingmaterials from refuse containers into refuse trucks.
* Performs manual debris removal.
* Operates compaction equipment on the truck.
* Cleans and maintainsinterior and exterior of refuse collection vehicles.
* Notes the conditions of refuse containers and reports the existence of improper containers or materials that do not comply with City requirements for collection.
* May performpre-trip and post-trip vehicleinspections and document on appropriate forms.
* Interacts directly with customers and the public.
* May serve as relief driver, as necessary, on commercial refuse and/or recycling collection routes.

Qualification Guidelines

Education

High School diploma or recognized equivalent.

Licenses

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to obtain a valid California Commercial Class B driver's license, or higher, within 6 months of appointment.

Desirable

Experience as a laborer in public service activities and skill in the use and care of assigned equipment. Possession of a valid California Commercial Class B driver's license, or higher.

Special Requirement

This position may be subject to overtime as required for completion of daily assignments.
