SUMMARY: This position assists one or more tradesmen by performing specific or general duties of lesser skills, such as keeping a mechanic supplied with materials and tools; cleaning work areas, machines and equipment; assisting journeyman by holding materials or tools; and performing other unskilled tasks as directed. Work is performed under the direction of a journeyman working on air conditioning, heating and ventilating systems for commercial and industrial applications. The helper reports to the Director of Mechanical Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
+ Assists HVAC Mechanic or Journeyman in repairing mechanical and electrical systems for heating and cooling equipment.
+ Performs preventative maintenance on a variety of heating and cooling equipment.
+ Periodically monitors and inspects heating and cooling systems to ensure continued proper operation.
+ Picks up and delivers parts and material required for job needs.
+ Investigates heating and air conditioning complaints; performs minor repairs
+ Installs air and water filters on various equipment.
+ Assesses drain problems and performs any needed repairs.
+ Follows all safety practices and adheres to all safety related policies.
+ Fills out forms related to the work such as purchase orders and maintenance records.
+ Performs related duties as assigned

+ PMs are completed as assigned
+ Positive relations with coworkers and customers
+ Safe practices and procedures observed
+ Work areas and tools are kept clean
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
+ High School diploma or equivalent preferred
+ Minimum of 6 months experience in the plumbing and pipefitting and /or HVAC mechanical equipment or graduate of trade school.
+ Working knowledge of hand tools.
+ Some knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations applicable to the trade.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
+ Mechanic Aptitude
+ Excellent communication and listening skills
+ Able to lift 50 to 75 lbs. and physically fit enough to work for periods of time in crawlspaces, wall voids, and attics.
+ Current driver's license and clean driving record.
+ Able to obtain a US government clearance.
+ Team oriented
