The University of Washington Tacoma's (UWT) Psychological and Wellness Services (PAWS) provides high quality and timely mental health services and health promotion programming for UW Tacoma students. The Director of Psychological and Wellness Services leads a team of clinicians, health promotion specialist, doctoral level clinical and counseling psychology trainees, and student affairs professionals in developing and implementing a unit plan that meets the needs of UW Tacoma's diverse student population and that uses rigorous assessment to demonstrate outcomes and guide future planning. The position has responsibility for daily operations of Psychological and Wellness Services, including financial management and ensuring that programs and services comply with applicable statutes, regulations, accreditation requirements, and professional standards. The position serves as the lead campus consultant on student mental health. As such, the position is highly impactful to the overall student experience and health and wellbeing.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership, Administration, and Management (55%)

Serve as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership Team.

Facilitate long-range and annual planning that aligns resources of PAWS with UW Tacoma's strategic goals, UW Tacoma Student Affairs strategic goals, and the needs of UW Tacoma's diverse student population.

Direct the day-to-day operations of PAWS, including administrative functions, clinical services, health promotion and health education efforts, and oversight of the UWT offsite, virtual-only, student health services.

Supervise 3.0 FTE licensed psychologists, one FTE health promotion specialist, one FTE program coordinator, two FTE doctoral level interns, and two part-time advanced doctoral level practicum students.

Manage the PAWS budget by ensuring compliance with UWT and Student Affairs policies, monitoring spending and planning for future needs.

Report on PAWS services (e.g., utilization, operational efficiencies, compliance, presenting issues, effectiveness) and utilize data to guide planning, budgeting and decision-making.

Lead the creation of, and monitor compliance with, policies and procedures for the provision of clinical services.

Ensure staffing and procedures comply with university, state and federal regulations and with professional ethical standards.

Clinical Leadership (20%)

Define and monitor expectations for clinical and other direct service expectations for clinical staff members, and appropriate clinical coverage during academic breaks.

Consult with PAWS staff and serve as a primary decision maker in situations in which the safety of a student is at risk and legal and ethical requirements of confidentiality must be balanced with concerns for safety.

Provide same day, individual, crisis, groups, and couples counseling for enrolled University of Washington Tacoma students.

Oversee UW Tacoma's engagement with the Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH), including the collection, transmission, and use of data related to the Standardized Data Set (SDS) and the Counseling Center Assessment of Psychological Symptoms (CCAPS).

Clinical Supervision and Training (10%)

Provide weekly, individual clinical supervision for doctoral interns and advanced doctoral practicum students in clinical and counseling psychology.

Provide clinical didactic training for doctoral interns and advanced doctoral practicum students in clinical and counseling psychology.

Outreach and Education (10%)

Provide consultation and training to university staff and faculty regarding student mental health.

Serve on the campus CARE Team representing PAWS, and participate in campus threat assessment consultations.

Provide administrative oversight of the health promotion specialist.

Collaborate to establish goals and strategies to improving students' mental health and inclination to utilize counseling services.

Cultivate community referral partnerships to support students in need of mental health services.

Other (5%)

Serve on UW Tacoma, tri-campus and other relevant committees pertaining to the work of PAWS.

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Doctoral Degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited program.

Minimum of five years of professional clinical experience to include at least three years in college or university counseling centers that offer practicums and traineeships.

Five years or more experience supervising professional staff and trainees.

Minimum three years administrative experience in a clinical setting (e.g., clinic director, private practice) or a university student support services office.

Experience, and strong commitment to, serving an ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse population; an appreciation of, a sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of many social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRED

Strong research and database management skills.

Experience with Titanium or similar electronic health record management and scheduling systems. Experience providing clinical supervision and training of postdoctoral permanent staff, postdoctoral residents, doctoral interns, and doctoral practicum students.

Active engagement in professional associations related to higher education student mental health and clinical services.
