Supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior.
This Ancillary Coding opportunity codes and abstracts Ancillary medical records including diagnostic accounts, emergency department accounts, and, following a rigorous review of the clinical documentation, abstracts and assigns appropriate ICD-10-CM codes and CPT codes into the hospital information system.
Example of Essential Functions:
- Reviews the record to ensure that both the order and test results are available in the electronic medical record before final coding a diagnostic account.
- Codes the correct primary diagnosis, secondary diagnoses, and applicable surgical CPT codes into the hospital information system.
- Puts accounts correctly "On Hold" when either the order or test results are missing and is able to select the appropriate "On Hold" reason in the 3M-360 drop-down box in the abstract.
- Participates in Special Projects to include the aging report or denials.
- Meets productivity Standards on a daily basis (See Coding Productivity Standards).
- Accurately abstracts the Attending Physician, Discharge Disposition and location Discharged to, Consultations, Ambulance Run Number & County codes, date of surgery or other procedures, Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, and Cause of Death if applicable when coding Emergency Department Accounts.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- PC experience; ability to use computer terminals for prolonged periods to enter data.
- Ability to work under time and productivity constraints.
- Ability to work with frequent distractions/interruptions.
- Ability to read records and handwriting of differing levels of legibility for prolonged periods.
- Attention to detail.
- Good organizational skills.
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
- Ability to reach, bend, lift, and carry medical records.
- Good public relations and communication skills.
- Good judgment when dealing with others.
Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required:
- High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of a Coding Certificate Program is required.
- At least one of the following is required:
- CPC (AAPC)
- CCS (AHIMA)
- RHIT
Patient Contact
Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:

Physical Demands:
Sedentary - Light Work - Lifting up to 15 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes). While work is mostly done sitting, a certain amount of walking or standing is often necessary.

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable.
Hourly Range: $19.64 - $30.68
