The Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) is one of 56 intermediate school districts (ISD) in Michigan. Every one of the state's 500+ local school districts is part of an ISD. The EUPISD is a regional education service agency with the primary function to provide or assist our local districts to provide special programs and services. Within our ISD, there are 19 districts covering 4,000 square miles in three counties and part of another in the eastern end of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The total number of PK-12 students is 6,500.
The EUPISD is funded with a combination of local, state, and federal funds. The voters of EUPISD have approved a 1.75 mill levy for special education, a .2 mill levy for general operations, and 1.0 mill levy for vocational education. State aid received is based on annual authorizations from the state legislature. Our current budget is $35 million. The EUPISD currently has 210 employees/contractors providing services to our local districts and students.
The EUPISD serves local districts by providing educational services and support in special education, curriculum, early childhood, career and technical education, professional development, business services and technology. The EUPISD also pursues business, community, and interagency collaboration. The EUPISD has a long history of collaboration with our local districts that has resulted in the creation of a strong infrastructure in support of all aspects of teaching, learning, compliance, and fiscal management.
Purpose of Position:The School Psychologist Intern will develop expertise in and provide school psychological services, under the supervision of a fully licensed school psychologist, in accordance with the EUPISD Plan for Special Education Programs and Services
Period of Employment: School Year
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of two years of graduate coursework in school psychology
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Function as a member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) in assessing the specific needs of children as assigned by the MET Coordinator
- Routinely serve as a MET Coordinator as assigned by administration
- Conduct initial and three-year comprehensive evaluations of referred students
- Interpret diagnostic findings to school and other concerned professional personnel, parents, and when appropriate, the student
- Consult in planning therapeutic intervention to support students with behavior needs
- Perform Functional Behavioral Assessments and write positive support plans
- Complete all evaluations and reports in a timely manner consistent with the ISD Plan and guidance documents
- Serve as a consultant to local school staff, parents, social service agencies, child study teams, and others involved in identification and clarification of student's education or behavioral problems
- Provide crisis intervention when emergency interventions are needed
- Participate on crisis team when a catastrophe occurs in the life of a student or within the school community
- Assist members of the psychology team in conducting risk assessments for students at risk of harm to oneself or others
- Assist districts with administration of concussion baseline assessments
- Support ISD and local districts with the implementation of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) by serving as a district MTSS coach and/or MTSS content trainer
- Attend student assistance team meetings and help teams analyze data and develop recommendations for interventions
- Must have regular and reliable attendance
- As needed for completion of duties, attend meetings outside of normal working hours
- Remain free of substance abuse and/or illegal drug use at all time
- Other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor of Special Education
