TITLE: School Psychologist- Special Education

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. A valid MSDE certificate (or proven eligibility).
  1. A master's degree and advanced graduate degree or doctoral degree from an approved program in clinical or school psychology, according to current MSDE requirements.
  1. Successful completion of required internship or experience under a certifiable supervisor.
  1. Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Services for Exceptional Children

JOB GOAL: To facilitate the appropriate educational, emotional and behavioral experiences of all students in the school community through a comprehensive program of psychological services.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Uses psychological principles to prevent or remediate a student's educational, emotional, or behavioral problems.
  1. Identifies the special psychological needs of students through consultation, observation, and other psychoeducational techniques.
  1. Conducts extensive psychological assessments for referred students.
  1. Analyzes, integrates, and reports psychological and educational information about students.
  1. Consults with school personnel in planning, implementing, and evaluating school programs and interventions to meet the identified psychological and educational needs of individual and groups of students.
  1. Develops,implements, and evaluates psychological interventions, including counseling, for students who have need of such services.
  1. Counsels or consults with parents of students with psycho-educational needs.
  1. Consults with school and other LEA personnel who apply psychological principles to enhance teaching processes, curriculum development, and the optimal development of each student.
  1. Acts as a liaison between private and community resources and the schools to integrate psychoeducational information.
  1. Provides inservice training to members of the school community regarding application of psychological principles to the educational process.
  1. Maintains and continues to seek professional development in areas of need.
  1. Interprets assessments to school personnel, other concerned professionals, parents and the student, as appropriate.
  1. Makes recommendations regarding interventions based on assessment results.
  1. Performs other duties as assigned by the superintendent or designee.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Exempt position. Ten, Eleven or Twelve Month teacher contract.
