The Department of Mathematics and Physics within the College of Health and Sciences promotes North Carolina Central University's commitment to excellence in instruction, research, and service offering programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree and the Master of Science degree each in mathematics and in physics. In addition, the Department offers all General Education Curriculum courses in mathematics as well as in physics.

Primary Purpose of Position

The purpose of this Mathematics/Physics tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Physics is to develop an astronomy and astrophysics program including research and courses to provide academic support, enrichment, research and work opportunities for Mathematics/Physics students at NCCU.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to engage in effective and respectful communication both written and oral.

Ability to provide instruction in physics (at all levels including undergraduate and graduate) and lower division computational courses using evidence-based or research-based pedagogical instruction.

Ability to create a sustainable research program of interest to the astrophysics community and funding agencies.

Ability to effectively interact with colleagues and supervise student researchers.

Computational experience in observational cosmology and time-domain astrophysics.

Minimum Education/Experience

PhD in Physics and/or related Astronomy or Astrophysics and 5 years of experience delivering support services in a STEM educational setting

Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
