SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) displays sensitivity and empathy to the needs of patients, visitors and members of the Littleton Regional Healthcare staff. The RCP provides direct patient care to all patient types receiving care at Littleton Regional Healthcare.

SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTION

The RCP is responsible for providing respiratory care to both in and outpatients at Littleton Regional Healthcare. The RCP has in house and on-call responsibilities amongst the Respiratory Team for 24/7 care of the patient with respiratory therapy requirements.

The RCP understands and adheres to all LRH and department specific policies and procedures as well as to the practice standards set forth in the New Hampshire for RCPs. This position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Littleton Regional Healthcare and demonstrates a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and coworkers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND WORK ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Share in providing 24 hour in-house and on call coverage.
  • Utilizes the application of scientific principles for the identification, prevention, remediation, research and rehabilitation of acute and chronic pulmonary dysfunction thereby producing optimum health and function.
  • Provide full range of services including: Adult ventilator care, CPAP and BiPAP, patient airway management of all aged patient population for in and outpatients, arterial blood gases, deliver aerosol and nebulizer therapy, perform chest physical therapy, patient education, and pulmonary function testing.
  • Reviews exisiting data, collects additional data, and recommends obtaining data to evaluate the respiratory status of patients.
  • Initiates, conducts, and modifies prescribed therapeutic and diagnostic procedures such as: administering medical gases, humidification and aerosols, aerosol medications, postural drainage, bronchopulmonary hygiene, cardiopulmonary resuscitation; providing support services to mechanically ventilated patients; maintaining artificial and narular airways.
  • Maintain all essential clinical and administrative records including documentation in the electronical medical record.
  • Communicates findings to multidisciplinary team
  • Actively contribute to the ongoing quality improvement process.
  • Ensure that equipment is maintained and available.
  • Actively participate in the multidisciplinary team and support departments by caring for patients respiratory care needs.

CLINICAL: PROFESSIONAL/SELF GOVERNANCE

REPORTS TO: Clinical Director of Critical Care Services

SUPERVISES: Respiratory Care Practitioners within Littleton Regional Healthcare's Respiratory Department.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience/Specialized Skills:

  • Currently licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of New Hampshire
  • Graduated from an accredited RT program. Bachelors in Science preferred.
  • Preferred 1-2 years previous clinical Respiratory Therapist/Respiratory Care Practitioner experience in acute care setting preferred
