Work Year: Actual calendar + 15 days
Contract Dates: School Year
FLSA Status: Exempt
Evaluation: Per Professional Negotiations Agreement

Qualifications: Appropriate State of Illinois License
School Psychologist Endorsement
Student teaching, internship, or current experience in this area

Purpose: To advocate for students through problem-solving and development of systems, programs, and services that maximize students' current and future social, emotional, and educational progress. To help students resolve such personal, emotional, and social problems as interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them. The school psychologist/educational specialist is a change agent who collaborates with individuals, families, schools, and communities to promote effective educational environments.

Essential Functions and Performance Responsibilities: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
  1. Assists with screenings to identify students who may need educational intervention.
    2. Attends building referral team meetings.
    3. Be knowledgeable about and follow legal requirements and ethical codes of the profession.
    4. Conducts case study evaluations.
    5. Provides verbal and written report of information obtained from the case study.
    6. Chairs/attends multidisciplinary conferences (MDCs) for those students evaluated.
    7. Consults with school personnel regarding behavior management and learning problems.
    8. Consults/counsels with parents and/or students to assist in the remediation of school related problems.
    9. Provides consultation for necessary individual educational programs or needs.
    10. Provides relevant inservice education for school personnel.
    11. Continues professional improvement by attending conventions and workshops, reading journals and other professional publications, and exchanging ideas with colleagues.
    12. Makes appropriate recommendations regarding ways to assist a student referred for examination.
    13. Conducts functional behavior assessments; assists in development of Behavior Intervention Plans.
    14. Conducts observations of students in a variety of school environments when necessary.
    15. Provide direct services to students to develop skills necessary for positive social and educational progress.
    16. Provide both direct and indirect services to students and staff in crisis prevention and intervention.
    17. Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as assigned by an administrator.
