We are seeking a Resource Parent Certifier (Social Service Specialist 1) to join our Alberta Child Welfare team.

This is a limited duration position scheduled to end one year from date of hire. Limited Duration employees eligible for benefits.

What you need to qualify

* A bachelor's degree in human services or a field related to human service, OR


* A bachelor's degree unrelated to Human Services and either:
* One year of Human Services related experience; OR


* Completion of coursework equivalent to certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency; OR




* An associate degree and either:
* Two years of Human Services related experience; OR


* One year of Human Services related experience and related training, coursework, or certification consistent with Oregon Caseworker Competency.





Essential attributes

We are looking for candidates with:

* Demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention, conflict resolution, behavior management, and the impact of trauma.


* Knowledge or understanding of child development and the impact of trauma.


* Experience in defining and explaining complex rules and guidelines in various settings.


* Experience in effectively engaging with families under challenging and time-sensitive circumstances.


* Experience in communicating complex technical and legal information in an understandable language to individuals with diverse educational, linguistic, cultural backgrounds, as well as internal and external partners.


* Experience in navigating technology and different computer systems.

Your duties at a glance

As an employee working within the Child Welfare Program, you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Oregon's most vulnerable children and families. Your dedication will help us achieve the Child Welfare Vision for Transformation that will support children and young adults to be safer, healthier, experience less trauma and achieve a greater well-being.

As a Resource Parent Certifier, you will:

* Seek out relative caregivers, resource parents, and adoptive parents that represent all ethnic and cultural groups within the community.


* Develop targeted recruitment strategies for resource and adoptive parents and help people explore opportunities within the Child Welfare program.


* Provide orientation and training to applicant families.


* Assess families' abilities to provide safe environments and meet the permanency needs of children through interviews, observations, home visits, etc.


* Write comprehensive family studies on resource homes.


* Assist caseworkers in placement matching of children, resource families, and adoptive families.


* Prepare families for placement and connect them with caregiving support groups and other resources.


* Provide ongoing feedback, assistance, and support to resource and adoptive families.


* Maintain case files and other records.



Working conditions

* Your work will involve both office and field tasks, which may include visiting client homes.


* Being on-call will be a regular part of your job.


* You will have the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of individuals, including those who have gone through traumatic experiences and may struggle with managing their emotions.


* This position offers a flexible schedule, with a typical workday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but there may be adjustments to accommodate planned services.


* You will need to be adaptable and open to working in various settings and with different people.
