Description:

The HSE representative position is an important role that coordinates and executes safety, health, and environmental programs. The position interacts with employees to ensure a culture of caring and where each employee is accountable and responsible for Safety, Health & Environmental conditions, and behaviors. The HSE Specialist ensures compliance with regulations and company policies, routinely interacting with employees in the plant on a routine basis.

HSE Culture

Under the direction of the HSE Manager, Manufacturing, this position fosters/develops a culture where safety, health and environment are ingrained as a core value with all employees, everyone believes zero is achievable, everyone is actively engaged in performing their work in a safe manner, and everyone actively interacts with co-workers to prevent at-risk behaviors. Actively participates on the HSE teams. Effectively coaches and develops operations HSE resources to be effective HSE leaders/coaches in their respective positions.

HSE Performance

Analyze HSE conditions and behaviors and help recommend changes to continuously improve our performance to world class levels.

Compliance

Primarily responsible for implementing systems, procedures, and work practices to ensure "audit ready" state of compliance. Help develop and implement processes and procedures (SOP's) and training to ensure compliance with company and regulatory agency policies, including federal, state, and local legislation and regulations pertaining to HSE.

HSE Strategies, Programs and Management System

Drive implementation of HSE best in class programs, systems, and processes, and coaching to establish clear procedures on HSE measures and precautions. Drives key effective, sustainable implementation of plant HSE initiatives, strategies, programs and procedures, responsibilities via leadership, coaching and teamwork. Drive excellence through active participation in the field to promote continual improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in performing PSSR'S and PHA'S on necessary applications. Review low level MOC's
  • Periodically review contractor performance
  • Conduct HSE meetings as required
  • Perform HSE training of plant personnel
  • Assist with the annual HSE Management System evaluation
  • Assist in timely completion of Incident Investigations. Assist in effectively communicating investigation results and corrective actions
  • Drive completion of open HSE action items in Corrective / Preventative Action System
  • Interface with operators and leadership on HSE issues and conduct periodic employee surveys or studies to assess employee comprehension and training effectiveness
  • Aid in the development and implementation of effective communication and other safety-related activities to promote employee participation in the site's HSE program
  • Perform periodic assessments, document findings and track to completion
  • Assist in maintaining industrial hygiene program
  • Participate in project walk downs and planning
  • Assist in providing guidance and direction to all plant personnel on safety questions and concerns

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or related field preferred
  • CSP, CSHO or other recognized designation preferred

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • 5+ years' direct HSE related experience
  • Thorough and current knowledge of state and/or national HSE regulations and requirements
  • Chemical manufacturing experience preferred
  • Highly developed planning/organizational skills
  • Adaptable - able to respond to unexpected conditions/emergencies professionally
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
