Job Description:

Job Summary

As a Maintenance Mechanic in Operations and Maintenance dept. at Purdue, you will:

* Maintain and repair Building Services' and Operations & Maintenance's tools and equipment.
* Complete and maintain training from the 4 major manufacturers.
* Clean, maintain, repair, and perform safety checks on various cleaning equipment.
* Make repairs on electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic vacuum sweepers, floor scrubbers and wet vacs, etc. of various sizes.
* Tear down equipment; repair and/or replace electrical switches and cords; motor brushes and bearings; brakes, gear box and steering assemblies; squeegee blades, brushes, fan belts etc. Inspect all equipment after repair to ensure safe operation.
* Assess and evaluate potential repairs and recommend repair vs. replacement.
* Use a computer to order parts and supplies.
* Pick up and deliver equipment to buildings.
* Act as back-up support for the Tool Crib as needed.
* Overtime may be required in this position.

Education & Experience:

This position represents a dual-level posting and will be filled as a Associate Maintenance Mechanic or next highest level. The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.

* High School Diploma or GED, preferred vocational or technical education.

For SK1.1:

* 0-2 years' experience in general maintenance, equipment repair, or closely related is required.

For SK2.1:

* 3 years' experience in general maintenance, equipment repair, or closely related is required.

Skills Needed:

* Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations necessary.
* Computer skills strongly preferred.
* Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics from equipment manuals.
* Must obtain and maintain training from the 4 major manufacturers.
* Ability to work with basic hand tools required.
* Must be able to use a multimeter and diagnosis wiring issues.
* Must have a valid driver's license.
* Good organizational skills (time management, self-motivation, attention to detail, decision-making).
* Familiarity with Purdue purchasing procedures preferred.
