Medical Scribe

St Cloud, United States Emergency Physicians Professional Association Full time
Emergency Physicians, PA (EPPA) is a physician owned and operated company with a Medical Scribe Program that includes 18 different locations throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul Greater Area and St. Cloud, MN. Specialties include emergency medicine, primary care, oncology, dermatology, orthopedics, and more.

A Medical Scribe works one-on-one with a physician (MD/DO), physician assistant (PA), or nurse practitioner (NP), accompanying them into each patient encounter. Scribes complete the Electronic Health Record (EHR)/charting in real time enabling providers to spend more time with their patients and increase the overall workflow of the department. An EPPA Scribe types everything that occurs during the patient visit from start to finish; including the patient's medical history, physical exam, patient outcomes, labs, imaging, dictations and more directly into the EHR. In return, Scribes become familiar with the workflow of medicine, medical decision making process, medical terminology, and different provider styles to patient care.

*Please note that you will be required to upload a Resume and your Undergraduate Academic Transcript (may be unofficial).*

Being a Medical Scribe with EPPA is one of the best stepping stone work experiences prior to a medical or PA school. Medical scribing hours are recognized by all medical schools and most PA schools as paid clinical hours. The EPPA Scribe Program is designed to help you get to the next step in your desired healthcare career path.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Accurate, timely charting of patient encounters, including but not limited to patient history, physical exams, diagnostic findings, lab and test results, consultations with other providers, treatment course, diagnoses, and discharge instructions.
  • Professional, non-intrusive interaction with patients (the scribe does not directly assist with patient care), providers, hospital staff, and other co-workers.
  • Compliance with hospital, HIPAA, and EPPA policies, including those relating to confidentiality of patient information.
  • Excellent job attendance. Scribes are held to the same attendance standards as the providers they work alongside.
  • All other duties, responsibilities, and/or projects as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate program with an emphasis in pre-medical/science coursework and labs, or have completed an undergraduate degree with professional school science pre-requisites and labs
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Prior healthcare related work, direct patient care, volunteering, shadowing, and/or undergraduate research is strongly preferred
  • Must be computer competent with the ability to proficiently type at 60 wpm or higher
  • Excellent communication skills in grammatically-correct written and verbal English language
  • Ability to spell, proofread, and edit written English text
  • Ability to problem solve in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Minimum one year of full-time (Non-PSEO) undergraduate studies completed is required
  • Must be 18 years or older

*Please note that you will be required to upload a Resume and your Undergraduate Academic Transcript (may be unofficial).*

Benefits:

The EPPA Scribe Program has a strong regional reputation for being one of the best scribe work experiences offered in Minnesota. Each year, about half of our EPPA scribes move on to medical school, physician assistant school, or other graduate programs within healthcare. All EPPA scribe employees are offered professional development workshops and ongoing learning opportunities to further their interest in medicine.

Professional Development Workshops:
  • Personal Statement
  • Interview
  • MMI
  • Mock-Interviews (1:1)

Additional Benefits:
  • Paid, In-Person 1:1 Training
  • Clinical Medical Education Lectures
  • Collaborative Community of Scribes
  • Employee Appreciation Events
  • Flexible Shift Scheduling
  • Health Benefits & PTO for Full-time Scribes

Hours and Commitment:

Like many scribe programs, we expect our scribes to remain with us for 12-18 months at a minimum. This is intended to show professional schools your ability to commit to a work position within healthcare, but also provides the opportunity to learn a breadth of medicine, build relationships with our providers, and re-affirm your desires to pursue healthcare as a career.

All EPPA Scribes are required to work a minimum of 2 shifts per week, with shift length ranging 8-10 hrs including mornings, days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnights. Our scheduling is flexible with most student schedules and students are not required to work overnights during the semester.

Unfortunately, we do not offer seasonal or summer-only scribes positions at this time.

EPPA is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. EPPA does not currently participate in E-Verify for work eligibility.

Physical requirements include but are not limited to continuous standing during shift, repeated sitting, listening, fluorescent lighting, repetitive typing and key entry work, computer work, and other normal hospital conditions.
