Qualifications:
  • Certified teacher with at least three years experience at the primary/elementary level or in specialized math/science with primary/elementary students
  • Professional development experiences including courses or workshops on math/science development
  • Have knowledge of math/science to include fluency building and problem solving and approaches to differentiated math instruction; have a deep understanding of the SC College and Career Ready Standards including the Standards for Mathematical Practice
  • Be able to establish a collaborative relationship with other teachers, parents and administrators
  • Organized and skilled at record keeping

Job Goal:
Utilizes/manages the "lab" to work with small groups of children with in-depth math/science instruction; to communicate with parent, teachers and principals regarding each child's needs and progress.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Administer an initial math/science assessment to children to identify those most in need of math/science intervention.
  • Keeps careful records on each child (e.g., daily lesson records, running records, weekly progress charts, record of math/science fact fluency, etc.).
  • Administers running records, math/science assessments, and recommendations for the discontinuation of children from the program.
  • Instructs individual and small groups of students for the purpose of improving math/science achievement levels.
  • Uses knowledge of assessment and remediation strategies for increasing student achievement.
  • Provides a high level of skill in all aspects of instruction that accelerates the learning of students struggling in mathematics.
  • Monitors the progress of children to inform teaching and motivate learners.
  • Communicates with teachers regarding math/science intervention students through regular conferences.
  • Coordinates across instructional settings the instruction provided to students in need with school personnel, including the principal, and district administrators.
  • Demonstrates effective teaching using various effective strategies to encourage academic growth in diverse learners.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.*
