The purpose of the clinical dentist at the Central Carolina Community College is to ensure maximum student learning and quality patient care. The clinical dentist accomplishes this by presenting discipline specific learning outcomes through clinical teaching, patient examinations, local anesthetic administration, and documenting patient treatment.

This position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required.

Essential Duties

Clinical Course Requirements

* Review patient medical history.
* Quiz students on any medical concerns or pharmacology questions.
* Complete oral exams with all new or returning patients with student participation.
* For oral exams, complete the following:
* Soft tissue exam
* Hard tissue exam
* Occlusion
* Radiograph review



For the oral exam, quiz students on various findings and check their knowledge.For local anesthesia, oversee students administering injections and quiz students on the sites and innervations.Oversee accuracy of patient referrals completed by students.Oversee the emergency cart, AED, oxygen tanks, and other pertaining supplies.Update emergency cart supplies to ensure no expired products.Evaluate eye wash stations in both the clinic and simulation lab weekly.Ensure updated emergency procedures/protocol - include faculty discussion at faculty meetings.Complete specific Process Evaluations related to medical emergencies, local anesthetic, etc. as suggested by the Clinical Coordinator. Follow the Dental Hygiene Clinic Handbook policies and procedures and work in partnership with faculty.

Teaching Responsibilities:

* Embrace the institutional goals of Central Carolina Community College by engaging students as full partners in the learning process, removing barriers to student progression in courses, and supporting and assisting students in achieving their educational and career goals.
* Supervise daily clinic functions and procedures in compliance with CDC Infection Control, OSHA and CODA guidelines.
* Create a dynamic instructional environment that promotes a positive, interactive, and inclusive learning experience for all students.
* Provide personalized and constructive feedback for students by recognizing what students did well and identifying attainable improvements for future work.
* Respond to all faculty or student communication within two business days.
* Actively support the college's vision of exceptional learning for all.

Institutional Responsibilities:

* Participate in activities required to maintain program and/or college accreditation standards.
* Attend advisory board meetings as requested by your supervisor.
* Engage in a minimum of 5 hours of professional development each year.
* Maintain current knowledge of your discipline and renew industry credentials, as needed.
* Attend departmental, divisional, and college wide meetings.
* Cultivate a culture of care and advocacy through compassion, inclusion, opportunity, integrity, courage, and people.

Minimum Requirements

Required educational background:

* DDS or DMD from an American Dental Association approved university

Required kind and number years of work experience:

* Two calendar years or the equivalent of full time clinical experience as a dentist

Required license or certificate:

* Hold an active NC state license in good standing
* Current certification with American Heart Association BLS/CPR with AED for Adult and Child

Preferred Requirements

* Current member of the American Dental Association or a member of the State Dental Association and drug license- DEA.
