Days and Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm

The Drug Court Case Manager provides case management support services to the Drug Court Program clients in Manatee County.

NOTE: This position has been designated by the Manatee County Commission as serving at the will and pleasure of the Chief Judge and may be terminated by the Chief Judge or his or her designee for any lawful reason including no reason.

Working Conditions

Indoor/office environment; some high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 25 lbs. alone/ up to 50 lbs. with assistance. Must be able to use a personal computer, copy machines, fax machines, scanning devices, multi-line telephones. Works independently, as well as with a team. Works with judges, pro se, and the clerk's office, OSCA, local social service agencies, State Attorney's Office, Public Defender's Office and Sheriff's Office, the court staff in Manatee County. Maintains confidentiality concerning sensitive issues before the court.

Job Description

Essential Functions

The Drug Court Case Manager completes the initial documentation (intake, screenings/evaluations).

Assists with program orientation, meets with clients on a weekly basis, and creates and updates case management plans.

Provides various referrals and follow-up, attends court sessions, facilitates life skills groups, updates case management database, keeps statistics, and other various data and reports as required.

Assists the Drug Court Manager in analyzing the effects of the services provided to the clients' overall functioning within the program.

Provides back up coverage in the lab as necessary.

Maintains effective working relationships with other court personnel, outside agencies, mental health and legal professionals, litigants, and the general public.

Analyzes files for completeness of appropriate legal documentation and the ability to move cases through the court process.

Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.

Provides periodic guidance as needed and meets at the end of the month with supervisor to monitor accomplishments.

Minimum Qualifications

Must become CJIS certified within 90 days of employment.

A bachelor's degree in public or business administration, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or closely related field.

Three years of related case management experience may substitute for the education requirement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic knowledge of the legal system; court processes and procedures; and the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of substance abuse and related issues.

Knowledge of community service providers.

Ability to analyze court files and legal documentation.

Strong computer skills, such as: proficient typing skills; the ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office products and Microsoft Outlook; searching the Internet; and the ability to learn and use new program software (FDCCMS, AVATAR).

Understand and often apply legal concepts, laws, and rules of procedure when performing case management tasks.

Understand the limitations of services of case management and what constitutes the unauthorized practice of law.
