Medical Lab Technician

Job Description
Performs a variety of routine and/or complex analysis on clinical specimen in all areas of the laboratory. Fulfills requirements for QC, QA, instrument maintenance, and inventory control. Interacts professionally with physicians, nurses, patients and co-workers.

6:00pm - 6:00am (could potentially be flexible with start time)

Responsibilities
Annually (or as required) reviews and demonstrates a complete understanding of all established policies/procedures as outlined in department manuals, and safety manuals., Assess and resolve problems. Technical, Instrument Problems, QC, Abnormal findings., Assumes responsibility for continuing education and professional development within or outside of facility., Communicates when leaving a shift, the status of testing in areas of responsibility., Continues to build upon repertoire of problem solving skills, Demonstrates the ability to assess technical and/or instrument problems, including QC and abnormal findings, to consider alternatives and to choose appropriate course of action., Documents verbal orders, problems, critical results called and read back on appropriate forms., Documents verbal orders, problems, critical results called and read back on appropriate forms., Follow protocol specified in detailed procedure manuals., Instruct patients on the proper way to collect specimens., Is able to perform all tests/tasks within the scope of the department., Maintains a current driver's license. Completes annual driver training. Complies with Driver Qualification Policy., Maintains a knowledgeable understanding of clinical correlation, result interpretation, lab procedures, and participates in continuing education., Maintains equipment to ensure minimal downtime and is responsible for proper handling of equipment and equipment maintenance., Monitor pending collection log., Note and verify unusual, abnormal or out-of-range results and promptly notify, physician and/or pathologist as appropriate., Order lab tests accurately in the computer., Participates in the development of special projects and trains personnel at all assigned workstations in the theoretical and practical applications., Perform duties in an independent manner, Perform specimen procurement in a timely manner when needed and demonstrates a complete understanding of specimen procedures: Finger sticks, Heel sticks, Venipuncture, and Arterial puncture, Performs review of instrument maintenance and/or quality control data before running patient specimens and documents this review., Receive specimens collected, Regularly demonstrates the ability to coordinate a simultaneous series of tasks accurately, including STAT orders and fluctuations in workload., Stays informed of changes and revisions to procedures and policies.
