Definition

This is a professional position in the City's Legal Division. An individual in this position will provide legal services to the City of Missouri City as directed by the City Attorney or the City Attorney's designee.

Examples of Work

* Support and uphold the mission, vision, credo, goals, and code of ideals (service, professionalism, integrity, respect, innovation, and teamwork) of the City of Missouri City.
* Primarily responsible for providing competent representation of the City of Missouri City and the State of Texas in the Missouri City Municipal Court by trying Class C misdemeanor cases, and drafting and reviewing complaints, motions, and review investigatory reports.
* Prepare briefs and render advice on Texas Public Information Act requests.
* Draft and review contracts, ordinances, resolutions, deeds, easements, policies, procedures, and similar documents.
* Assist in the coordination and preparation of items for consideration by various boards, commissions and the City Council.
* Conduct legal research; maintain knowledge of new laws and changes in existing laws; analyze legal information to form a basis for opinion; and check the accuracy and authenticity of research.
* The attorney will practice in the field of municipal law, which includes the following areas of law: criminal law; budget and fiscal management; constitutional law; economic development; elections and voting rights; ethics and professionalism; labor and employment; land use and development; law enforcement and municipal court; legislative consulting; open meetings.
* Perform other duties as assigned; and
* Subject to 24-hour recall.

Education, Experience, or Certification

A Doctorate of Jurisprudence Degree and State Bar of Texas license are required. The ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and understand and accurately articulate complex issues is required. Experience in municipal government is preferred. Must have a valid Texas driver's license. Must submit a resume, cover letter, and references with City application.
