Research Staff Scientist

Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Director of Health Equity and Disparities and Leaning Health Systems Research, manage and set research and development priorities across projects aligned with Regenstrief Institute's key health care partners.
- Lead and/or assist with research coordination, project design, implementation, and evaluation of research projects. May provide guidance to other staff members.
- Prepares analyses, reports, and other documentation for publications; presents findings at local, national, and or international meetings. Participates in the dissemination of research findings with stakeholders and other community members.
- Provides technical guidance and consultation to co-workers, collaborators, and or students.
- Develops and supports methods to identify funding opportunities aligned with HDE and LHS and establish cross-disciplinary teams to apply for funding, e.g., NIH, PCORI, AHEQ, etc.
- Participates as key subject matter expert.
- Ensure document of processes to create a "playbook" for the best methods for Regenstrief Institute investigators and staff to work with and coordinate with key partners.
- Prepares grant/contract proposals to obtain funding in support of research activities.
- Performance other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Experience
- Requires an MPH, DrPH or PhD in a relevant scientific field (epidemiology, health policy & management, health services research, implementation science, or related field).
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years of relevant research experience in health equity and disparities, learning health systems or public health or similar field.
- Requires proven/successful experience in establishing and executing research projects. Experience working on/securing external grant support and experience in activities consistent with Regenstrief's overall mission is preferred.
- Requires the ability to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders, including networks of academic, health care systems, government agencies, non-profits, community groups, and industry partners.
- Requires the ability to maintain currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
- Requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse individuals.
- Requires the ability to work with multiple projects at the same time. Prior experience acting as a project manager strongly preferred
Language Skills
- Ability to interact and verbally communicate with a diverse group of managers, clients, customers, stakeholders, and the general public
- Ability to write reports, manuscripts, presentations and other operational correspondence
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Ability to think logically in order to troubleshoot, analyze situations, and make sound decisions
Technical/Computer Skills
- Requires ability to manage and record all research data
- Highly proficient computer skills, including extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and e-mail systems
- Ability to operate office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and phones
- Strong ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, and knowledge of statistical terms, methods, and skills used to summarize, describe, and analyze a collection of data

- This position requires the physical ability to work 40 hours per week, including the flexibility to work extended hours as necessary to meet organizational needs

- This work takes place in both a formal and at home office environment as well as onsite at other facilities meeting with stakeholder and partners, which could include hospital. This position follows a HYBRID working model, incorporating 2 to 3 days of on-site presence.
- This work is fast-paced and deadline-oriented and requires a flexible work schedule
- Use of a computer, business office equipment, and other machinery is necessary
- This position requires working as a team member and also independently
- This position requires working and interacting with a diverse group of other individuals, both in person and through phone, e-mail, and written correspondence
