As a Senior Systems Software Engineer, you will help design, build, and operate a hosted Spark service that accelerates Spark workloads on GPUs. You’ll work across the service layer, GPU Spark runtime, and routing components to enable production data pipelines at scale. The role blends Kubernetes-based service infrastructure with Spark Connect, Kyuubi, and Flux, contributing to high-availability, low-latency data processing for NVIDIA’s internal data platform. You’ll influence deployment, monitoring, and technology choices in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities
- Design, build and operate hosted Spark service control plane on Kubernetes (Java REST API, Spark Connect runner, Kyuubi, Helm, Flux)
- Own code review for one or more services end to end and keep them releasable on the release train
- Extend cuDF Spark runtime and CPU/GPU workload router in Scala and Java, with Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, and Unity Catalog interoperability
- Investigate production failures on clusters with thousands of concurrent jobs and drive fixes
- Instrument metrics, dashboards, and alerts; participate in on-call rotation and maintain runbooks
- Provide recommendations on infrastructure, CI, and testing strategy
Key requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related field (or equivalent experience)
- 9+ years of software development experience
- Strong distributed-systems fundamentals and proficiency xhuatnn in Java or Scala, plus C++ or Python
- Hands-on experience operating services on Kubernetes (on-premise or cloud)
- Experience owning or reviewing long-lived servers: REST front ends, proxies, or request routers
- Experience supporting enterprise or internal production customers, including on-call
- Experience using AI tools in software development
