*Summary:* Under the supervision of the Coordinator of Special Education, provide speech and language therapy to the children enrolled in the Preschool Special Education Program and provide Itinerant Speech Therapy. Provide information and support to the child(ren’s) parents and classroom teachers in order to facilitate improved, functional communication skills.

*Duties and Responsibilities*

1) Provide individual and small group therapy for all children enrolled in Special Education program, as prescribed on the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

2) Evaluate the speech/language and hearing functioning of children assigned for therapy using formal and informal assessment tools.

3) Utilize alternative forms of communication or assistive technology with students as needed and/or indicated on the student's IEP.

4) Monitor possible psychological, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and behavioral needs.

5) Prepare speech and language summary reports and annual reviews reflective of the child’s progress and current level of functioning.

6) Advocate for the child when attending CPSE/CSE meetings, as requested by the Director of Special Education.

7) Communicate regularly with parents about a child’s progress and future placement. Participate in parent education meetings.

8) Meet all State Education record keeping and reporting requirement including:

a. Complete IEP quarterly updates in a complete and timely fashion.

b. Complete annual review testing, reports and IEP goal updates.

c. Make recommendations for future placement.

d. Share results with parents/caregivers during parent conferences.

e. Present information regarding a child’s present levels of performance; progress toward goals; and recommendations at CPSE and CSE meetings.

9) Meet Medicaid requirements with regards to record keeping, therapy provision and record keeping and reporting.

a. Ensure all children on caseload have current speech language therapy prescriptions matching IEP.

b. Complete logs and timesheets in a complete fashion, meeting Medicaid requirements for contemporaneous notes and details as outlined in SSHSP training.

c. Enter notes for billing in the McGuiness System as required by Monroe County.

10) Facilitate Preschool Special Education Evaluations:

a. Conduct Speech/Language and hearing evaluations on students referred by Committee on Preschool Special Education.

b. Write a report stating diagnostic findings and whether Monroe County Speech Impaired Guidelines are met.

11) Attend and participate in planning, team, integrated and Special Education Department meetings.

12) Develop and maintain positive rapport with parents and co-teachers.

13) Offer ongoing professional guidance concerning therapy techniques to the speech and language therapists and the classroom teams.

14) Supervise students engaged in fieldwork.

15) Attend scheduled RCN staff and in-service meetings.

16) When possible, conduct or supervise an annual screening of all preschool children enrolled in the RCN childcare/UPK or EPK programs, and possibly outside agencies and Family Child Care homes as needed.

17.) Other duties as assigned.

*Education/Experience:*

M.A./M.S. in Speech Language Pathology required

NYS Certification as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) or Teacher of Students with Speech & Language Disorders (TSSLD) required

NYS licensure required (for non CFY candidates)

ASHA Certification (for non CFY candidates)
