The Director, Global Medical Training & Field Excellence will lead the development and execution of strategic training programs and field excellence initiatives across Global Medical Affairs. This role is responsible for building capabilities, driving consistency, and enhancing performance across both field and in-house medical teams globally. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in learning, medical affairs operations, and field engagement strategy to elevate the impact of medical teams in delivering scientific value. Job Description Key Responsibilities Include: Executive Strategy and Cross-functional Partnerships Develop and implement a global medical training strategy aligned with therapeutic area priorities and business objectives. Lead the design and delivery of onboarding, continuous learning, and capability-building programs for field medical teams (e.g., MSLs, MMLs). Partner with cross-functional stakeholders (Medical Strategy, Compliance, Commercial, HEOR, etc.) to ensure training content is accurate, relevant, and aligned. Establish and manage field excellence frameworks, including performance metrics, best practices, and tools to optimize field engagement. Drive harmonization of medical content review processes across regions to ensure consistency and scalability. Lead the development of scientific content and training materials in collaboration with subject matter experts. Monitor and evaluate training effectiveness and field impact, using data to inform continuous improvement. Serve as a strategic advisor to senior medical leadership on field team readiness, capabilities, and performance. Stay current on industry trends, regulatory requirements, and innovations in medical education and field engagement. Change Leadership and Customer Focus Serve as a change champion for new ways of working, driving organizational adoption of standardized processes and engagement methodologies Lead initiatives focused on better understanding the needs of our external customers to evolve our engagement model to sustained valued partnerships Define key metrics that measure the quality and impact of engagement from the external customer’s perspective, guiding continuous process improvement External Engagement and Field Excellence Oversight Provide direction on the strategic use of the centralized external expert list, guaranteeing its accuracy, consistency, and proper use across all functional areas Oversee the development and application of best practices to ensure all external interactions (with KOLs, Payers, Patients, etc.) are non-transactional, high-value, and strategically tailored to the asset lifecycle stage (Early vs. In-line) Set high-level standards for the capture and synthesis of Field Excellence intelligence and insights, ensuring this data drives strategic decision-making across the portfolio Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of engagement and training initiatives through KPIs and continuous improvement frameworks. Global Training and Capability Building Lead the Global Training Team for Medical Affairs, setting the strategic roadmap and priorities for all internal professional development and capability building Drive the development of standardized global training curricula covering scientific exchange, regulatory compliance, data interpretation, and stakeholder engagement protocols Consider technology and AI to support workflow improvement Ensure all training initiatives are strategically aligned with new system implementations (e.g., Veeva) and changes in compliance requirements Establish global standards and best practices for scientific exchange, field excellence, and training delivery. Qualifications Education and Experience: Advanced scientific or clinical degree is required (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent) Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with at least 7 years in Global Medical Affairs Proven experience in setting enterprise-wide strategy for External Expert Engagement and/or leading a global Training/Capability function Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and digital learning platforms. Skills and Competencies: Exceptional ability to provide leadership and strategic direction across multiple diverse functions Superior Stakeholder Management and influencing skills, capable of gaining consensus and driving compliance among senior functional leaders Mastery in change management, with the ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics and drive adoption of new processes Deep understanding of the global regulatory and compliance landscape governing external expert interactions and internal training requirements Strong business acumen and presentation skills, capable of articulating complex strategic initiatives to leadership team Strong technological acumen with proven experience overseeing large-scale technological solutions for Medical Affairs (e.g., Veeva) as well as digital learning platforms and field medical enablement tools Ability to lead in a matrixed environment and influence across functions and geographies. xhuatnn Experience in rare disease, CNS, & other specialty therapeutic areas is a plus.
