POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Optometrist is responsible for providing eye care to patients at the Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC) service unit (includes Tuba City & Sacred Peaks facilities).
Qualifications:
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Doctor of Optometry Degree (OD) from an accredited school.
Must hold a therapeutic pharmaceutical level optometry license.
Must have completed an accredited optometry residence.
License:
Must possess and maintain a current and unrestricted license to practice as an optometrist in any state within the United States, District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
Experience:
Must be proficient in the diagnosis and management of common ocular diseases including conjunctival and corneal disease, anterior uveitis, retinal vascular disease (including diabetic ocular complications), optic nerve disease (including glaucoma), retinal degenerations (including macular degeneration), retinal tears and detachments, as well as routine comprehensive eye exams.
Credentialing:
Must be a credentialed member of the Medical Staff by meeting the criteria for Credentialing and Privileging in accordance by TCRHCC Medical Staff Bylaws.
Other Skills and Abilities:
A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:
Successful and positive working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and support staff and demonstrated the ability to work as a collaborator.
Development of positive community relations, including an understanding of the political issues in the community and the organization where previously employed.
Possession of high ethical standards and no history of ethical complaints.
Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills with patients and co-workers in an appropriate and timely manner.
Has the ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment.
Follow the chain of command.
Must be fluent in English
Successful completion of and positive results from all background and reference checks, including positive employment references from authorized representatives of past and current employers demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC a record of satisfactory performance and that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job
Successful completion of fingerprint clearance requirements, physical examinations, and other screenings indicating that the applicant is qualified to be employed by TCRHCC and demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

Physical:
Some physical exertion such as long periods of sitting working at the computer, standing, walking, bending, maintaining balance, reaching, and occasional climbing, kneeling, crouching, and twisting are abilities required for this position. Position also requires the ability of recurring lifting of light to moderately heavy items, such as books, papers, equipment, pushing patients in wheelchairs or transferring patients between chairs is required. Must be able to lift up to 34lbs and push and pull up to 50lbs. Must have ability of simple grasping, firm grasping, fine manipulation and use of keyboards. Sensory requirements include far vision, near vision, color vision, depth perception, seeing fine details, hearing normal speech, hearing overhead pages and telephone use. Long work hours may also be required.
Mental:
The clinical optometrist must possess and demonstrate a broad knowledge of visual disorders, ocular diseases and related systemic disease and appropriate therapy and/or referral for said conditions. Must have ability to continually concentrate, handle high degree of flexibility, handle multiple priorities in stressful situation, work in areas that are close and crowded, occasionally cope with high levels of stress, make decisions under high pressure, cope with anger/fear/hostility of others in a calm way, manage altercations, work alone, and adapt to shift work. Must accept a flexible schedule to meet unit needs.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Diagnosis of visual and ocular problems through external and internal physical evaluation of the eye and adnexa.
Treatment of visual, ophthalmic, and related disorders through prescription of corrective lenses, pharmacological therapy and other standard treatments, consistent with granted privileges.
Provision of emergency eye care including diagnosis and treatment of ocular trauma or pathology on an outpatient basis consistent with granted clinical privileges.
Referral of patients requiring medical or surgical services to the appropriate medical specialty.
Completion of accurate patient care notes and billing documents, which comply with professional, federal, and other applicable guidelines.
Provision of care to inpatients consistent with clinical privileges or in assistance to ophthalmologist.
Responsible for timely electronic health records data entry pertinent to patient service role.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.
Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates)
Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction.
Completes all patient care documentation in the electronic health record entries accurately and in real-time.
Participates in departmental workflow and or testing teams as related to electronic health record or other project initiatives
