Summary

The Histology Technician will perform the various tasks required for

receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic

examination and analysis by the Pathologist. This may include logging, batching,

and cutting, mounting, and staining procedures.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform gross pathology on skin specimens including gross description,

inking, when necessary, dissection and selection of appropriate tissue

sections and preparation of tissue blocks.

• Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in routine staining procedures

and special staining procedures including control outcome. Prepare and

maintain required reagents.

• Produce high quality microscope slides following standard operating

procedures.

• Complete assigned tasks and daily workload; set priorities for achieving

goals within designated time frame.

• Assist others in completing required tasks.

• Demonstrate proficiency in the use and maintenance of appropriate

laboratory equipment. Recognize equipment/method problems.

• Maintain log forms, schedules and records of workload/caseload.

• Maintain work area and equipment for optimal performance and safety.

• Recognize problems (e.g., stain deviations, equipment malfunction, unusual

specimens, etc.) and implement solutions and/or seek assistance when

necessary.

• Consistently perform job accurately and timely.

• Must follow all rules, safety standards, policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

• Candidates must be HT or HTL (ASCP) certified with 2 yrs. experience in

basic histology.

• Prior experience in medical office.

• Self-motivated to achieve the highest patient care and customer service

standards.

• Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding (preferred).

• Thorough understanding of HIPAA law
