At Eye Specialist of Napa Valley, we are seeking an experienced Surgical Counselor to join our dynamic team. The Surgical Counselor is responsible for scheduling ophthalmic surgeries for the respective physician with our partner ASC's and hospitals. In this role you will be expected to provide a concierge level of service to patients. The right candidate will be hardworking, efficient, who can see the work and complete all tasks efficiently. With at least 2 years' experience in surgical scheduling, coordinating surgeries, and cataract testing (ECC, IOL Master, A-Scan, Corneal Topography etc.). Prefer clinical/technician experience.

Scheduling surgeries in the office, over the phone, or at satellite locations.
Counseling patients on all outpatient surgical instructions
Obtaining signatures from patient on Informed Consents and Post-Operative Release forms
Verifying insurance benefits on surgery patients and determines if pre-certification is required by their insurance company
Setting up the post-operative appointments with referring doctors’ offices or surgeons
Scheduling surgeries with the facility
Preparing surgery chart for each surgeon, including pre-certifying surgery; obtaining the post op report from the referring doctor; typing the discharge letter and sending to referring doctors; reviewing with the patient the surgical instructions, appointment calendar and eye drops schedule for patient’s pre and post-operative care.
Entering surgery appointments and post op appointments in the scheduling system
Communicating and provide billing team all necessary documentation for billing of procedures

Requirements:

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certificates/Eligibility:

H.S. Diploma; College degree preferred
Experience in Surgical or Ophthalmology field preferred.
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with practice management software.
Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes.

Ability to direct the activities of the staff and manage the personnel.
Knowledge: Working knowledge and experience in ambulatory surgery environment, preferably operating room preferred, including direct patient care. Ability to adhere to work schedule and manage time appropriately.
