Job Title: Sommelier
Position Overview
The sommelier oversees the wine service and works closely with the culinary and service teams to provide guests with wine knowledge and recommendations that enhance their dining experience. This role involves curating the wine list, purchasing and managing inventory, training staff, and ensuring the highest quality of wine service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Wine Service and Guest Interaction
• Provide expert wine recommendations and pairings tailored to guests’ preferences and the menu.
• Serve wine with proper etiquette, including decanting and presenting bottles.
• Address guest inquiries about wine and educate them on selections.
2. Wine List Management
• Develop and curate an extensive wine list, ensuring variety, quality, and alignment with the restaurant’s concept.
• Continuously update the list to reflect seasonal availability and trends.
3. Inventory and Purchasing
• Manage wine inventory, ensuring optimal stock levels.
• Establish and maintain relationships with wine vendors and negotiate pricing.
• Monitor costs and implement strategies to maintain profitability.
4. Staff Training
• Train front-of-house staff on wine basics, proper service techniques, and pairing principles.
• Conduct tastings and workshops to increase wine knowledge and confidence among team members.
5. Event Planning
• Collaborate with the events team to plan wine-focused dinners, tastings, and pairings for special occasions.
• Ensure smooth execution of wine service during private events.
6. Compliance and Maintenance
• Ensure proper storage conditions for all wines (temperature, humidity, etc.).
• Maintain compliance with state and local liquor laws.
Qualifications:
• Certification from an accredited sommelier program ( , Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET, or equivalent).
• In-depth knowledge of wine regions, varietals, production methods, and pairing principles.
• Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in fine dining or upscale establishments.

Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift cases of wine (up to 50 lbs).
