The Head Electrician works under the supervision of the AOTVA Production Manager of the Aspen Opera Theater & VocalARTS (AOTVA) program at the Aspen Music Festival & School (AMFS). The AOTVA program is under the co-artistic direction of Rene Fleming and Patrick Summers. The upcoming season will utilize the AMFS orchestras, the 2,050 seat Klein Music Tent, and Historic Wheeler Opera House throughout an encompassing 8-week summer season. This season's mainstage productions will be Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte and Puccini's La Boheme . This role services all lighting needs for AOTVA productions and works closely with lighting designers.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with lighting designers to implement their creative vision, ensuring all lighting cues are executed accurately during rehearsals and performances.
  • Manage the available inventory of lighting equipment in a highly organized manner, ensuring all necessary supplies are available for production.
  • Create practical lighting and effects based on each production's specific needs.
  • Responsible for loading-in, operating, maintaining, and striking electrics.
  • Program and run weekly opera scenes master classes.
  • Enforce and adhere to all safety regulations and protocols related to electrical work.
Requirements
  • BA/BFA in Technical Theater with an emphasis in electrics or 2-3 years professional experience in lieu of a degree.
  • The ideal candidate should have previous design ability with strength in creating stock lighting looks.
  • Experience using, programming, and troubleshooting moving lights, scrollers, and a variety of consoles is required.
  • Experience with video projection, or video walls preferred.
  • Candidates must have sensitivity to the needs of student performers and staff and a proven ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Candidates also must be independently motivated, possess a sense of humor, be able to lift up to 50 lbs., and climb stairs and ladders comfortably.
  • Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver's license. A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired.

June 23, 2025-July 30, 2025

Compensation

$18/hour plus housing provided by AMFS (valued at a minimum of $4.91/hour depending on location.) Overtime $27/hour

Benefits include AMFS season pass and paid sick time.
