Job Summary

The Director of Operations will be responsible for managing the overall operations of the plant. They will also be responsible for the effective and successful management of labor, inventory & procurement, productivity, quality control, and safety measures as established and set for Metro Door. The experienced director will ensure safe and efficient operations as well as serve as a company representative on regulatory issues. You will enhance the operational procedure, systems, and principles in the areas of information flow and management, business processes, enhanced management reporting, and look for opportunities to improve overall business performance. You will also carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company's policies and applicable laws.

Job Responsibilities

  • Recruit, select, train, assign, schedule, coach, counsel, and discipline employees.
  • Communicate job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions.
  • Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends.
  • Forecast requirements; prepare an annual budget; schedule expenditures; analyze variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Develop operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; develop, implement, enforce, and evaluate policies and procedures; develop processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping.
  • Analyze and improve organizational process and workflow, employee and space requirements, and equipment layout; implement changes.
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with company policies and applicable laws.
  • Meet or exceed operations labor budget expectations.
  • Responsible for all department managers and supervisors, with review/approval responsibility for all operations employees
  • Run a safe, injury/accident free workplace.
  • Serving as primary liaison with utilities and local government agencies, such as fire, police, health, and safety agencies
  • Manage relationships with key operations vendors.
  • Track vendor pricing, rebates, and service levels.
  • Serve as primary point of contact when there are customer issues related to product defects caused by manufacturing
  • Communicate customer issues with operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints.
  • Work closely with GM and management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures, and systems and to follow through with implementation.
  • Communicate all operating policies and/or issues at department meetings.
  • Work closely with the office manager and team to perform analysis of our inventory and ensure we are utilizing our inventory effectively, purchasing the material, maintaining solid inventory data.
  • Communicate with legal counsel and safety department to ensure all processes remain compliant with OSHA health and safety regulations and other governmental regulations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in technical related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in related position.
  • Fabrication/machining experience.
  • Excellent Communication skills at all levels of organization.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills.
  • Six Sigma / Lean Production.
  • Change Management.
  • Must possess innovative leadership, communication, delivery, consultative, partnership, and team building skills.
  • Addressing operational concerns and issues, monitoring overall customer satisfaction.
  • Developing and implementing operational procedures and policies.
  • Analyzing training needs/requirements in a skill based training program.
  • Ability to work with details and time sensitive issues.
  • Good decision making skills and response to high pressure situations.
  • Computer efficiency with Microsoft Office and a ERP system.
  • Familiarity of equipment required for the Rolling Door industry.
  • The selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work is performed in various locations, including warehouses, distribution centers, manufacturing plants, refineries and hospital settings. Employees may work with co-workers' side-by-side with a moderate level of activity being performed. Noise levels in the work environment can exceed 90 decibels. Hearing protection may be required to perform certain tasks.
