About Thea Energy:Thea Energy is leveraging recent breakthroughs in stellarator physics and engineering to create a faster and simpler approach to commercializing fusion energy. The company is reinventing the stellarator using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils thereby replacing the intricate, complex modular magnets required in all other stellarator architectures. Thea Energy is on a mission to create a limitless source of zero emission energy for a sustainable future.Position Overview:Thea Energy is looking for experienced, highly motivated mechanical engineers to join its rapidly growing team. Mechanical engineers will have ownership of the mechanical design and development of primary and secondary components and subsystems in the development of Thea's stellarator fusion demonstration plant. You will be responsible for the structural and thermomechanical design, manufacturability, development and commissioning. The Thea Energy team is comprised of driven, creative, and fun individuals passionate about solving complex problems.Key Responsibility Areas:Have ownership of the design and development of primary and secondary mechanical fusion components and subsystemsWork with core system-level development teams to define prototyping requirementsProduce mechanical engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and parameters from the physics basis with appropriate tolerances for vendor quoting and manufacturingDesign tooling for assemblyPerform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis and simulation using Ansys and COMSOLPerform structural FEA analysis to develop, assess, and optimize designsIncorporate design for manufacturing principles and support first buildsSupport the implementation of tooling and manufacturingDesign and execute qualification testingTrack and report results and progress against program goals and milestonesCommunicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholdersRequired Experience & Skillsets:At least a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or related fieldsExtensive experience designing, building, and commissioning custom systemsExperience in mechanical engineering and design using CAD software (e.g. Solidworks, CATIA, NX, etc.)Experience specifying machining, welding, and/or fabrication requirementsAbility to work through and solve highly complex engineering problemsAbility to take initiative, work independently and as part of a teamAbility to execute and flourish in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environmentComfortable working to aggressive deadlinesExceptional work ethicStrong team member with clear communication and collaboration skillsInnate desire to learn, innovate, and critique ideas including one's ownDesired Qualifications:Experience with magnetic confinement fusion, aerospace, or other highly technical industriesFamiliarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)Experience owning systems or complex sub-systemsExperience with FEA (e.g. Ansys and/or COMSOL)Experience with CFD (e.g. CFX, Fluent)Company Benefits:Competitive salaryComprehensive health benefits (e.g. medical/dental/vision)Employee equity stock optionsOpen vacation policiesWork-life balanceIt's not necessary to meet all of the skillsets outlined above.
