This position will be for someone who will be able to develop the skills required for cleaning and preparing buses for secondary finish paint applications. They will also be able to develop the skills required to apply primers and finish paint coatings, with guidance from the Painter 1, while following the existing procedures developed by our coating's supplier and New Flyer.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
. Must be able to apply tape and/or decals in accordance with customer requirements.
•Must be able to complete all assigned training in the time allotted.
•Must be able to pass all sections of our paint application skills evaluation after all training is complete.
•Must ensure proper spray technique, insure paint gun travels straight, even coat of material, proper on and off triggering of paint gun.
•Must ensure paint gun is the proper distance from surface being painted and correct overlap is being followed.
•Must be able to identify and repair any defects found before applying coatings.
•Must be able to properly prep the bus for finish coatings including masking, taping, using blower to remove loose dirt and debris, cleaning, and tacking.
•Must be able to break down, clean, and rebuild spray gun as necessary.
•Must be able to wear a full-face respirator, gloves and paint suit while applying coatings.
•Must be able to perform all spray gun set-up checks as required before application of coatings process.
•Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach. Must be able to climb up and down, as well as working while using a ladder.
•Must be able to lift regularly lift up to 10 pounds.
•Must be able to wear a respirator for up to eight hours.
•Clean work areas and keep all dirt/dust, trash, used sandpaper, etc. from off the floor and in other areas by following 5S and other lean initiatives.
•Perform other related job duties as determined by management.
•Attendance is an essential function of the job.
•Must be at workstation at the beginning of the shift.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
•Previous automotive paint experience is desirable.
•Ability to read and follow intermediate measurements, possess elementary mechanical aptitude.
•Attention to detail and must be able to distinguish differences in color shades and tints.
•Follow verbal and written instructions.
•Good communication skills, ability to work with little supervision, and ability to work in a team environment.
