The responsibilities of the Registered Clinical Dietitian is to create a nutrition plan to improve the health, and wellness of senior residents. Duties include, but are not limited to, analyzing a resident’s health status, goals, and dietary restrictions while maintaining progress and providing educational tools for staff and residents to implement. The Registered Dietitian continually studies emerging trends and stays current on new research related to the practice of dietetics, and educates the culinary staff on pertinent topics related to human nutrition and culinary service.  Oversees the nutritional care of residents by performing nutritional assessments, and managing the physician’s orders for therapeutic diets and supplements. Provides nutrition education to residents, attends resident rounds, and maintains clinical nutrition policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 
  • Assess residents nutritional and health needs and deliver services within a person-centered approach with the result of motivating the resident to continue treatment and follow through with treatment recommendations.
  • Complete nutrition assessments and follow-ups on residents with increased nutritional needs, in accordance with the Villages policies
  • Develop policies to establish an effective dietician services program for the Village.
  • Develops and provides education to residents, families, nursing, food service, and other facility staff on nutritional needs
  • Provides supervision and support for residents during meals and snacks, as needed.
  • Document assessment of residents with nutritional goals and/or changes in status in the medical record.  Ensures that all documentation of services is completed no later than 24 hours of services being rendered.
  • Coordinates meal plans with the culinary/dining services director as well as providing consultation with the culinary team, as needed.
  • Attend resident rounds on assigned floors and inform nursing and physician of changes in the resident’s nutritional status
  • Participate in and complete monthly QAPI projects, quarterly chart audits, and resident tray evaluations
  • Maintains all continuing education requirements and license/certification requirements for practicing in the state of Michigan.
  • Maintain Service Excellence Core Values during employment and servicing residents, staff, volunteers, leaders, vendors, and all associated with the organization.
  • Attend and participate in all appropriate meetings and training opportunities in order to keep informed on current information and skill development.
  • Follow established policies and procedures including but not limited to: 
    • Presbyterian Villages policies and procedures. 
    • Safety policies and procedures. 
    • Federal, state and local regulations. 
    • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or Nutrition required (must be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics).
  • Current registration status in Michigan.  Registered Dietitian license/certification, required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide nutrition services appropriate to senior residents.
  • Must be knowledgeable of dietary practices and procedures as well the laws, regulations and guidelines governing dietary functions in nursing care facilities.
 Computer Skills:
  • Efficient Computer knowledge and use of Microsoft products, word processing, spreadsheets database systems, time keeping systems, online learning systems, email and all other computer generated systems. 
 Licenses, Certificates & Registrations: 
  • Registered with the American Dietetic Association and State licensure as a Dietitian or Nutritionist.  
  • Valid drivers license and reliable transportation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Lift/Carry/Push/Pull15 lbs. minimum.
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
Physical Demands:
  • Standing.
  • Walking.
  • Handling/Fingering.
  • Squat/Kneel/Bend.
