Primary Objectives:
  • The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist will work to create and enforce a culture of safety within the organization by implementing programs, policies, and assessments to ensure SSP complies with all federal and internal health and safety rules.
  • Adheres to all SSP policies, procedures, and practices and follows supervisor directives consistently, respectfully, professionally, and effectively in a manner reflecting the quality expectations and standards of conduct of SSP.
 Essential Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned and changed as needed)
  • Establish and monitor internal and external customer satisfaction metrics, driving programs for system upgrades and improvement.
  • Coordinate safety program for the facility including compliance with governmental regulations.
  • Evaluate, assess, and alter safety procedures and policies.
  • Risk Management including oversite of reserve process.
  • Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts.
  • Investigate all incidents, oversee 5 why process, corrective action, and problem-solving.
  • Track incident metrics and apply findings.
  • Prepare and conduct safety training sessions for employees.
  • Research environmental regulations and policies and institute changes to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the applications for and receipt of necessary permits.
  • Lead injury and incident inquiries and evaluations.
  • Manage the ergonomics program and coordinate EHS-related activities in the Continuous Improvement Workshops.
  • Conduct inspections of the workplace for safety issues and concerns.
  • Review all new equipment and processes for regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain files and records.

Requirements
  • 2-3 years of EHS-related experience in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Heavy manufacturing environment preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Industrial/ Occupational Safety & Health or Environmental Engineering) - OR - Associate degree and 4+ years previous EHS experience in lieu of degree.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule across three-shift operations.
  • Experience with SC Worker’s Compensation Law.
  • Ability to train, influence, and motivate team members.
  • Moderate physical effort is required including sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting & grasping.
