Summary of the Job: Under the general supervision of the VN Program Director delivers class and/or clinical instruction according to an approved course syllabus using accepted and effective teaching methods; develops daily lesson plans; advises and tutors students; maintains current and accurate attendance and records grades. The VN nursing instructor remains current in the applicable program teaching field; and participates in faculty meetings; professional growth and, in-service training sessions, student functions, orientation, and advisory board meetings. Essential Functions:
- Delivers curriculum following approved syllabi, according to program objectives and timelines.
- Employ appropriate instructional resources and evidence-based strategies to enhance the learning process to meet diverse student needs.
- Manage and maintain the classroom in good physical and academic productive order to support learning and student success.
- Prepares lesson plans, handouts, and other curriculum-related materials.
- Promptly record student conferences and counseling on Corrective Action Plans (CAP) forms.
- Works additional time weekly, as required, for individual student needs outside the classroom.
- Attends formal and informal staff and faculty meetings.
- Informs VN Program Director and/or supervisor of unsatisfactory academic progress, discipline or attitude problems, and occurrences that warrant discussion.
- Be familiar with and comply with clinical site policies and procedures. Complete all required training and orientation including, but not limited to electronic health records and medication administration.
- Direct, instruct, guide, and supervise care provided by a group of students (usually 6 to 10 students in a group) while they complete their clinical rotation.
- Hold student pre- and post-clinical conferences.
- Grade written assignments, maintain accurate records, and return graded work to students on time.
- Complete the mid-term and final clinical evaluation for each student.
- Provide feedback about the adequacy of the clinical site in allowing students to meet course outcomes to the clinical coordinator, HUSON Dean, and Associate Dean.
- Unencumbered Nursing License in the State of Texas
- Minimum of a BSN degree
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years of practical experience as a licensed registered nurse within the last five (5) years.
- Provide evidence teaching abilities and maintain current knowledge clinical expertise and safety in subject areas of teaching responsibilities.
