Job Overview:
The Director of Construction is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating, usually through subordinate supervisory personnel, activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems to complete 25 new construction Habitat Homes annually, on time and with the skillset to increase the number of homes built each fiscal year. Participate in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversee its organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation by working with sub-contractors, vendors, trades, and volunteers.

Job Duties:
  • Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate construction project activities to meet deadlines.
  • Prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports, and cost tracking reports.
  • Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes and other regulations.
  • Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with the construction or maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems.
  • Study job specifications to determine appropriate construction methods.
  • Investigate damage, accidents, and delays at construction sites to ensure that proper construction procedures are being followed.
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Develop and implement quality control programs.
  • Develop and implement environmental protection programs.
  • Implement new or modified plans in response to delays, bad weather, and construction site emergencies.
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to representatives of the owner or developer, including administrative staff, workers, or clients.
  • Perform, and contract others to perform, pre-building assessments, such as conceptual cost estimating, rough order of magnitude estimating, feasibility, and energy efficiency, environmental, and sustainability assessments.
  • Must have excellent people skills and be capable and enthusiastic about teaching and working with unskilled volunteers and prospective homeowners.
  • Apply for and obtain all necessary permits or licenses.
