The Finishing Assistant Manager will act as a support role for the Finishing Manager. You will assist with ordering materials, scheduling labor, attending project meetings, communicating with other departments and project managers via all channels, creating samples, and overseeing work on the shop floor. We are looking for someone who has an extensive knowledge of scenic finishes and techniques, is highly organized, and is capable of working comfortably in an environment with shifting demands. This is a full time position, and the hours are Monday through Friday 9am-6pm, subject to change based on schedule demands.
  • Oversee daily operations on the Finishing shop floor
  • Assist with scheduling of labor
  • Act as department liaison to other departments, in person and virtually
  • Order materials when required
  • Create samples for upcoming work as needed
  • Attend project meetings in Finishing Manager’s absence
  • Assume all Manager duties in Finishing Manager’s absence

Oversight of Current Jobs/Shop Floor:
  • The Assistant Manager will maintain a working knowledge of all jobs currently in production in order to effectively supervise progress on the shop floor in conjunction with the Scenic and Millwork Foremen. 
  • They should primarily focus on logistics, movement of pieces through the shop, maintaining proper counts, and communication between the Finishing department and all others. 

Administrative Duties:
  • The Assistant Manager should help the Department Manager with various administrative tasks as needed. These include, but are not limited to: reconciling expenses, approving timesheets, ordering materials, etc.

Inventory Management:
  • The Assistant Manager should keep track of stock inventory for the department, either by personally conducting a count or appointing someone to do so weekly. 
  • They are responsible for ordering any necessary items to maintain a sufficient inventory or communicating to the Department Manager which items need to be ordered. 

Facilities Management:
  • The Assistant Manager is responsible for establishing a sensible and orderly layout for the Finishing Department. 
  • They should also work to establish and enforce a cleaning and maintenance schedule with the staff in order to keep our workplace free of unnecessary environmental hazards. This should include maintenance of all tools, including spray guns, Festool sanders and vacuums, air cleaners, and other various equipment.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role in a Scenic or Fabrication finishing environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Scenic skill, including faux finishing, foam carving, event finishing, wood/millwork finishing, and skim coating
  • Comfortable with technology, including Gmail, Google Drive, and project management software
  • Ability to lead crews of varied skill levels
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
