Purpose:
The Electrician provides continued safe and proper operation of the electrical components in the District.

The electrician's responsibilities include using several tools to install and service electrical systems, observing district safety guidelines, documenting each project and updating records, providing material cost and time estimates, and training apprentices. Should also be able to easily diagnose electrical faults and provide excellent customer service.

To be successful as an electrician, you should be able to read blueprints, use diagnostic tools, and make decisions under pressure. 

Essential Job Functions:
  • Tests for power losses, bends conduit, pulls appropriate color-coded wiring, installs breakers, connects wiring, and operate electrical systems.
  • Replaces or repairs components including ballasts, relays, sensors, fire alarms, lighting, and clock systems.
  • Installs new electrical devices and outlets.
  • Connects and operates generators, works on high voltage transformers, interior and exterior signs, works on ladders and scissor lifts.
  • Replaces electric motors and drive belts.
  • Repairs vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, and buffers.
  • Installing, repairing, and servicing electrical systems.
  • Sourcing or fabricating replacement electrical components.
  • Interpreting blueprints and drawing rough sketches when required.
  • Guiding and overseeing other apprentices or journeyman electricians.
  • Obtaining equipment, tools, and materials for projects.
  • Testing and troubleshooting systems.
  • Providing assistance during emergencies.
  • Updating project records and preparing relevant documents and reports.
  • Liaising with staff, vendors, and other electricians.
  • Provides preventative maintenance such as oiling motors, greasing bearings, tightening belts on motors, Univents, unit heaters, and exhaust fans.

Other Functions:
  • Plows snow with a pickup truck or service vehicle for overtime prior to 8 hour shift.
  • Assumes overtime and emergency assignments during off hours.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as may be occasionally assigned, including minor HVAC and plumbing work.

  • Completing tasks using fine finger dexterity.
  • Utilizing computer keyboards and screens to enter, retrieve, and transform information or data.
  • Moving up to 50 pounds (pulling, pushing, lifting, carrying)
  • Sitting, standing, walking
  • Climbing to elevated roofs
  • Driving a service truck, utilizing a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License

Licensed as a Journeyman Electrician is preferred.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school graduate and preferable completion of technical school or its equivalent.
  • A valid driver's license from the State of Wisconsin.
  • Completion of electrical apprenticeship.
  • 3- 5 years of service truck experience.
  • State of Wisconsin electrical license.
  • NFPA 15 arc fault certification.
  • Experience with power tools and other equipment used in construction.
  • Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position and be willing to work nights as necessary.
  • Firm grasp of health and safety codes.
