About the JobThe Laugh Boston Theater Technician is a quick thinker who is able to deftly navigate a complex theater system in order to create unique experiences for our guests. They work closely with both Laugh Boston staff and visiting comics and casts to help express the artistry of the comic or show. Additional Requirements Include:
  • 18+.
  • Legally able to work in the United States of America.
  • Able to work 2-3 shifts per week with at least one day of weekend availability.
  • Sound Setup and Operation: Ensure the sound system is set up correctly before each performance. Operate sound equipment during shows, including microphones, speakers, and soundboards.
  • Lighting Setup and Operation: Set up and operate lighting equipment to enhance the atmosphere during performances. This includes adjusting lighting cues according to the comedian’s performance.
  • Video Setup and Operation: Manage any video equipment used during performances, such as projectors or screens for visual gags or presentations.
  • Stage Management: Assist in coordinating the flow of the show, including managing the timing of acts, introducing performers, and ensuring smooth transitions between acts.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Issues: Quickly troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues that arise during performances, such as sound feedback or lighting malfunctions.
  • Collaboration with Performers: Work closely with comedians and other performers to understand their technical requirements and ensure their needs are met during the show.
  • Maintaining Equipment: Regularly inspect and maintain all technical equipment to ensure it is in good working condition. This may involve basic repairs or coordinating with maintenance technicians.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all technical equipment and setups comply with safety regulations to prevent accidents or injuries during performances.
  • Assisting with Special Events: Provide technical support for special events or performances hosted by the comedy club, such as live recordings, broadcast events, or themed nights.
  • Training and Support: Offer training and support to other staff members who may need to operate technical equipment during performances.
  • Audience Interaction: Occasionally interact with the audience, such as making announcements or assisting with audience participation segments of the show.
  • Maintaining a Positive Atmosphere: Help create and maintain a positive and welcoming atmosphere for both performers and audience members throughout the show.
