Substance Abuse Counselor - Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT)

River Edge is currently seeking a Full-time Substance Abuse Counselor for our ACT Program.

Location/Schedule: Baldwin County site; Mon- Fri 8:30a to 5:00p with 1-2 nights and 1-2 weekends on call.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provides a broad range of paraprofessional social services to patients/clients/consumers and their families, participates in treatment team planning, and performs crisis intervention.
  • Assists in dealing with personal and social problems.
  • May provide supportive counseling to consumers and families and/or serve as a liaison for social services.
  • May perform case management duties, and group skills training with adolescents.
  • Provide assessment/evaluation as it pertains to substance use disorder(s) and co-occurring needs.
  • Provide individual counseling, and group/family counseling/training to clients seeking treatment for substance use disorders.
  • Complete insurance authorization documentation as required to ensure all services are authorized.
  • Document all services on the same day the service(s) were provided.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and regulatory ethical/legal guidelines as a substance abuse counselor.

Minimum Training & Experience:
  • High School Diploma/ GED equivalent
  • MUST have a CACII certification.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a social service-related field (social work, sociology, psychology, etc.). 
  • At least one (1) year of experience providing mental health and substance abuse treatment.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise with the chronically mentally ill population.
  • All applicants must pass an intensive background check and pre-employment drug test.
  • Demonstrate expertise and knowledge in mental health and substance abuse services and community resources. 
  • Exemplify excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
