What is a Design Specialist? A Design Specialist is a trained product professional that meets with Solar Shield clients in their homes and commercial spaces to help them find the perfect solution for their windows. Whether our clients need privacy, light control, heat protection, or just want to update the design of their space, we have a Solar Shield product that is perfect for them. Design Specialists help guide our clients to the perfect solution, all while maintaining a friendly, helpful, inclusive, and professional attitude. Design Specialists are responsible for showing samples, measuring windows and outdoor spaces, building comprehensive quotes, and closing sales both in home and after the appointment.

Our Ideal Candidate:
  • 2+ years of window covering and/or exterior shade product installation, service, or in-home sales experience OR 3+ years of any other outside sales experience.
  • Is highly motivated by closing sales and watching those commissions add up.
  • Is an organized self-starter, and can juggle new sales along with follow-up for previous quotes.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Reports to each scheduled consultation prepared with quoting software and all product samples.
  • Reviews samples, tools, and supplies needed for each day’s schedule and ensures they are loaded and ready in the vehicle. 
  • Follows schedule as set by scheduling coordinator.
  • Communicates any difficulties that arise or changes that need to be made to the schedule.
  • Checks notes for each consultation before beginning and follows any special instructions.
  • Project plans on the job site in order to fully meet customer needs and wants.
  • Carefully notes specifics about the project being planned, and is mindful of communicating details to the install team. 
  • Completely cleans up work areas when consultation is completed, and reloads vehicle.
  • Reviews quote or order with client and collects payment and signature as necessary.
  • Finalizes orders in the system, completing any notes as needed before a quote is finalized or converted to an order.
  • Maintains a schedule for follow ups on open quotes and leads.
  • Primarily uses any free time during work hours to follow up on open quotes, work with other team members for growth and development, and keep abreast of new or changing lead sources. 
  • Placing product orders daily after 72 hour hold.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Customer Service Aptitude: knowledge of principles and processes for providing excellent customer service such as performing customer needs assessments, meeting service standards, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Monitoring and Coordinating: Adjusting actions as needed to meet customer service needs, make improvements, or take corrective action.
  • Critical Thinking: Use logic and reasoning combined with training and experience to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternate solutions during project planning. 
  • Time Management: Routinely completing consultations within the allotted time frame and using unscheduled time for follow-up, networking, and other tasks as pertinent to the sales process.
  • Product Knowledge: Puts an emphasis on growth and development in product knowledge, keeping current on changing technologies and trends.
