Summary/Objective:The Engineer 3 position at UMCH is a vital role within the Engineering and Facilities department, designed for a skilled professional with a strong foundation, or perhaps a professional certification in one or multiple trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, etc.). In this case, UMCH is seeking a certified Electrician or a Journeyman with at least 5 years of experience.

This senior role supports the Engineering and Facilities Manager by ensuring projects are executed efficiently and effectively across the casino and its grounds. Engineer 3 is expected to demonstrate high levels of organization and communication, assisting in the coordination of maintenance tasks and project schedules while liaising with multiple departments to ensure seamless operations. This role requires not only technical expertise but also a keen ability to prioritize tasks, mentor less experienced staff, and maintain a proactive approach to both day-to-day activities and larger-scale projects. Through strong leadership and exemplary workmanship, Engineer 3 contributes significantly to the upkeep and improvement of UMCH facilities, enhancing the overall guest experience and operational success.
Key Accountabilities:
Advanced Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate expert-level skills and developed knowledge in a comprehensive array of building and repair disciplines, including drywall, painting, plumbing, electrical systems, landscaping, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, roofing, and welding/metalwork. Utilize this extensive expertise to effectively manage and execute complex maintenance and repair projects across the UMCH property, ensuring high standards of quality and efficiency in all facility-related tasks.
Specialization and Certification:
Maintain and utilize a specialized skill in a specific area of engineering, such as electrical work, HVAC systems, or plumbing, to address specialized needs within the property. Ensure all certifications are up-to-date and comply with tribal, local, state, and federal regulations.
Mentorship and Team Coordination:
Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, lead and direct teams during projects, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. Act as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff, providing guidance and support to foster a skilled and knowledgeable engineering team.
Supportive Coordination and Effective Communication:
Assist in managing and prioritizing various projects throughout the casino and its grounds under the guidance of the Engineering and Facilities Manager. This position requires strong organizational skills to effectively track project progress and coordinate with necessary teams/employees, ensuring timely updates and adjustments as needed. Effective communication skills are essential to relay important information, facilitate discussions, and act as a link between management and those performing the work.
Project Management:
Oversee and manage multiple projects from inception to completion, ensuring they meet all operational standards and requirements. Coordinate with the Engineering Manager to align these projects with the broader strategic goals of the department and the property.
Safety and Compliance Oversight:
Monitor all activities to ensure compliance with safety standards and building codes. Regularly inspect and evaluate facility conditions to preempt safety issues and ensure a safe working and living environment for guests and staff.
Adaptability and Commitment:
The Engineer 3 role demands a professional with humility and the willingness to undertake diverse tasks that may extend beyond typical responsibilities. This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including availability to occasionally work holidays and unconventional hours when necessary to support special events and the evolving needs of the casino.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Engineer 3 acts as a team lead by guiding less experienced staff on maintenance and repair projects. This role is responsible for mentoring and directing team activities and ensuring safety and efficiency, without handling formal management duties like performance reviews or disciplinary actions. Engineer 3 supports professional growth within the team and maintains high workmanship standards.
Qualifications:
General:
  • Must be at least 21 years old to obtain a UMUGC Key License (required).
  • Must be able to pass the UMUGC and CG background investigations (no financial crimes or other felonies).

Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • A college degree or a trade school certification will be given priority. 

Certifications:
  • Any state/federal trade certification will be given priority. 
  • Certified Electrician or Journeyman License w/ 5+ years experience strongly preferred.

Experience:
  • At least three years of experience in Engineering & Maintenance or a similar field is required. 
  • At least 3 years of general computer experience
  • At least one year of leadership, supervisory, or project management experience preferred 
  • Recent tribal gaming experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge:
  • Fundamental base understanding of a wide range of trades (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, finish work, HVAC, etc.). Specialized knowledge/understanding in at least one trade.
  • Familiarity with engineering software/techniques for interpreting blueprints and planning work that accounts for existing facilities/infrastructure
  • General knowledge of basic construction, remodeling plans, and the requirements for larger projects that necessitate insured and certified professionals.

Skills:
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., scheduling & time-keeping software, Microsoft Suite, etc.
  • Effective project management skills for planning, delegating, and overseeing maintenance and repair projects, ensuring they align with safety standards and strategic objectives.
  • Skilled in most trades, highly skilled in a specific area (electrical).

Abilities:
  • Capacity to provide guidance, motivation, and direction to a varied team, ensuring all members, regardless of skill level, are productive and aligned with department goals.
  • Strategic mindset to discern between simple fixes and complex issues, prioritizing projects that are more time-sensitive within the context of casino operations
  • Ability to execute complex facility & engineering tasks to a high standard. Ability to replicate quality work on a day-to-day basis that adheres to both safety and quality standards. 
  • Ability to work independently, resolve problems, and exercise sound judgment in interpreting guidelines and applicability. Ability to exercise ethical and sound independent judgment and apply common sense. 
  • Ability to interact effectively with co-workers with respect, tact, courtesy, and maturity. Maintain a positive, cooperative, and professional working relationship with management, tribal governance, and fellow staff.
