REPORTING TO: Lead Toolmaker/Project Managers.
OVERVIEW OF POSITION:Assist the Toolmaker in manufacturing parts for dies and other tasks requested within the manufacturing scope of work. Learn and assist in the assembly and trial process die building including but not limited to jigs, fixtures, or other specialty items. Learn and be responsible for retaining the knowledge of various machining and assembly techniques as demonstrated by the Toolmaker or Group Leader. The Toolmaker Helper may be given their own jobs when they have proven the initiative and ability to move into a Toolmaker role.
JOB DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
- Ability to read and understand basic blueprints and willing to learn Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Will be required to operate basic tool room equipment such as: Proto Trak mill, surface grinder, band saw, drill press and lathe. Must also have the ability to use measuring tools such as: micrometers, dial calipers, dial indicators, etc.
- Ability to inspect own workmanship prior to submitting to Quality Inspection.
- Ability to work from both written and verbal directions and build components from sketches as well as drawings.
- Perform daily tasks as directed by the Toolmaker or Project Manager.
- Respect the experience of others around you as they offer their guidance to train you.
- Report items that do not meet print requirements or poor workmanship which are critical to quality to the Toolmaker.
- Must adhere to all relevant ISO / AS guidelines and procedures, quality and workmanship standards, and all safety guidelines and regulations.
- Should have their own basic Toolmaker tools to work efficiently and effectively. Must show initiative to buy and make tools to perform their job duties and minimize borrowing tools from others on a daily basis.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- 2 to 5 years of related experience and/or training preferred.
- Must have a High School Degree or GED.
- Trade-related college courses or Certificates of Completion are desirable. (Sinclair, MVCTC, etc)
