The Position:
The Chief Executive Officer is accountable to the board of directors, works in a team relationship with the board president, and is the head of staff. The CEO is responsible for giving professional and administrative leadership to the YWCA of Charleston. Their central administrative goal is to successfully operate a multifaceted, non-profit human service organization while recognizing and understanding the complexities of being a local organization affiliated with a national and international women’s organization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree in social work or related field, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- At least 3-5 years of management experience, with demonstrated skills leading effective teams and programs.
- Proven ability to relate to people of all ages, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Ideal Requisites:
- Passionate about our mission to Eliminate Racism; Empower Women; and Promote Peace, Justice, Freedom, and Dignity for All.
- Experience in leadership roles at a nonprofit or similar organization.
- Excellent written, oral, and public speaking skills: strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in financial statements.
- Understanding of organizational development with detail-oriented and problem-solving skills
- Strong experience in marketing and fundraising.
- Able to relate to people experiencing homelessness or recent survivors of domestic violence.
- Familiar with, or sensitive to, West Virginia’s unique culture and can quickly assimilate to the Charleston market.
Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and management for all the administrative and operational functions of the organization following the mission, objectives, and policies.
- Carry overall responsibility for current fiscal management and assuring financial stability by initiating and implementing long-range, financial planning processes and fundraising strategies.
- Initiate, cultivate, and extend relationships with the organization’s individual, foundation, and corporate supporters portfolio.
- Leading the development, implementation, and review of the agency’s Strategic Plan in association with the executive committee of the board of directors, the senior management team, and others.
- Oversee hiring and firing for key positions within the organization.
- Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board by providing members with all information necessary to continually function properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner.
- Work closely and openly with the Board and its committees, ensuring ongoing communication of risks, issues, and successes.
- Motivate, empower, and provide direction for internal team leaders, employees, and volunteers.
- Oversee the use, management, security, and upkeep of association-owned and rented facilities.
- Serve as the face of the organization and participate in external events to increase visibility, credibility, and market brand, while developing strategic partnerships increasing community awareness, and expanding programs.
Location and Travel:
- This role is based at the YWCA-Charleston’s headquarters in Charleston, WV.
- The agency also serves Boone and Clay counties and is affiliated with YWCA-USA in Washington, D.C., periodic out-of-town travel to other offices throughout the region is expected.
