About Choice in Aging / Choice in Learning:

In 2017, a Montessori preschool that had rented space from Choice in Aging announced that it was abruptly closing its doors. When parents came to us in a panic because of the impending closure, the Choice in Aging Board stepped into the gap, taking over the preschool so that it could continue to serve the community. As a result, the Choice in Learning preschool was born. Staying true to the Montessori philosophy of self-directed learning and prepared environments, our preschool continues to be led by the same phenomenal director and staff.
Additionally, the integration of the preschool into our programs has enabled us to an develop intergenerational component called the Young at Heart program, where elders and preschoolers interact and become good friends. They play volleyball and other games, sing and read stories together. Our older adults light up when they see the children, and students benefit from the time and attention of the seniors. The Young at Heart intergenerational program fosters openness, diversity and respect for older adults as a core value of the children’s development. The program brings joy for all, making this endeavor a huge win-win

Montessori Substitute Teacher:

Choice in Learning Montessori seeks to educate the young child in the spirit of Montessori while at the same time challenging the child to become part of a global environment governed by mindfulness toward young and aging alike. We seek to maintain a site where children and families feel welcome, supported, and nurtured.

We are an intergenerational Montessori Preschool located in Pleasant Hill offering a part time assistant teaching position with the potential for advancement. Our ideal candidate is happy, energetic, flexible and enjoys working with young children. We are looking for a team player to join our team.

Choice in Learning Montessori (CiL) is a program of Choice in Aging (CiA) which has been providing care for frail elderly since 1949. Our President & CEO’s dream of intergenerational programming was realized in 2017 with the addition of an on site Montessori preschool.

Work Schedule: M-F

Work Hours: Varies depending on needs of organization

Job Requirements:

  • 12 ECE units required (completed and/or ongoing)
  • Preschool aged teaching experience
  • Current Health/TB screening
  • Required Immunizations-CPR/1st Aid Certified
  • DOJ clearance/fingerprinting
  • Full COVID vaccination regimen completed at least two weeks before the first day of employment

Salary: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour

About Choice in Aging:

Choice in Aging (CiA) has been providing services to the community’s frailest people since 1949, when it was created by volunteers to serve children severely disabled by Polio. Over the years, the organization has provided a wide variety of programs, with the goal of promoting dignity and independence of people with disabilities and special needs. Our mission is to create opportunities where people can learn, grow, and age independently with dignity in community. Program History Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) is a program that was created in California in 1978 in response to a need to have an alternate solution to institutionalization. The program mirrors the skilled nursing staffing model, but is based in the community and typically operates during the day on weekdays. It is akin to a senior center for those who can no longer attend a senior center independently. It is especially beneficial for those who need additional support to do things like ambulate, eat, toilet, participate in activities and more. Staff provides therapeutic activities disguised as fun throughout the day, making socializing and exercising meaningful and pleasurable. This makes folks want to come back each day
