HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals. HJF is seeking a Biostatistician I/II to provide biostatistical support for military field-based and clinical research. This involves performing statistical analysis on data collected from large-scale field-based and clinical military research studies. The Biostatistician I/II participates in cross-functional teams or specific projects with defined outcomes and performs data analysis with guidance and appropriate controls. This position will be in support of Department of Military and Emergency Medicine (MEM) - Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP). CHAMP carries out and translates research to improve service member performance in the field and returning to duty. CHAMP aims to be DoD’s best resource for evidence-based information on human performance optimization (HPO) to improve the performance and resilience of our service members and their families.
Responsibilities:
  • Assists in the design of biomedical research protocols through collaboration with researchers, clinicians, data managers, and other domain experts to align statistical analyses with research objectives.
  • Provides statistical support via statistical consultation and data analyses throughout the courses of studies and assists in the preparation of statistical reports for presentations and publications.
  • Provides relevant statistical and project status updates to PI and research team.
  • Work with the data manager and/or data scientists to plan and build database infrastructure for each research study
  • Experience with performing statistical analyses for clinical and field-based research studies (e.g., intervention studies, epidemiological studies, patient-reported outcomes research and/or clinical outcomes research, etc.)
  • Present findings, results, and recommendations to project teams, leadership, and external stakeholders (e.g., military commanders/leadership, Defense Health Agency, governmental funding providers)
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role. 
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics and research study design.
  • Understanding of field-based and clinical research paradigms, methods, and workflows.
  • Experience working with large-scale healthcare datasets, electronic health records (EHR), or similar medical research data, military medical research preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Stata, and experience with data manipulation, analysis, and analysis libraries (e.g., SAS, SPSS, Power BI, MATLAB).
  • Understanding and use of analytics tools and suites and cloud-based data systems (e.g., SQL, Google Analytics, etc.)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, healthcare systems, and clinical research processes.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and critical reasoning skills.
  • Ability to investigate data issues and participate in remediation activities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and collaboration abilities to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Physical Capabilities:
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
Work Environment:
  •  This position will take place primarily in a laboratory, clinical, or office setting.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience required or
  • Master's Degree
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required
