EnviroScience has offices in the Midwest, Southeast, and Mid-Atlantic regions and field offices in Pennsylvania, Missouri, and Wyoming.
Selected candidates would also be exposed to many different diving techniques including SCUBA, hookah systems, and surface supplied diving. EnviroScience is one of the few biological firms in the country that is a general member of the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) and offers full-service commercial diving services. Our diving meets the highest standards for safety and efficiency, including those of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) EM385-1-1, OSHA, ADCI, and the U.S. Coast Guard. Our in-house ADCI certified commercial divers are not only highly trained professionals, but they are also highly experienced mussel surveyors and widely respected by state and federal resource agencies as qualified mussel collectors. Additionally, we are an established company recognized for our robust health and safety program and a registered firm in good standing with ISNetworld. Qualifications:This position is a great opportunity for a qualified malacologist who enjoys traveling, diversified project types, and possesses a high level of self-motivation and enthusiastic leadership.
Other qualifications include:
- Minimum B.S. degree in the Biological Sciences, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Hold or previously held or able to obtain State Collection Permits (Example: IA, IL, MN, WI, MO, OH, WV, PA, NY, MI, TN, TX, VA, MD).
- 2+ years of diving experience.
- Ability to conduct aquatic surveys independently and manage a team of field biologists and divers.
- Ability to read and interpret resource mapping.
- Experience with Midwestern, Southeastern, and/or Mid-Atlantic freshwater mussel species.
- Experience with technical report writing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently.
- Valid driver license and a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Additional Beneficial Skills:
- Federal Recovery Permit.
- Additional State Scientific Collection Permits.
- Additional background in fisheries, endangered species, herpetology, amphibians, or marine macroinvertebrates.
- Project or client management.
- Experience with Southeastern, Southern Appalachian, and/or Atlantic Slope freshwater mussel species.
- Experience with boat driving and trailering.
- Familiarity with state and regional mussel collection protocols and agency consultations.
